ODBC Connection to Vantage 4.0 and Access 7.0

Joan,

I have heard from someone in the past months that some Access versions can't handle the long text strings that are in certain fields, like the ones you listed below. A guy named Tony gave me this information:

You may have to add an extra "Part" table due to a bug in the field Part.Description. I've been told the Vantage update to 4.0 combined with the Merant Driver will overcome this, but until we upgrade, attempting to bring this field in crashes the program. I believe it has to do with any field of 30 characters. My work around has been to export the Part table the night before a run, and import it into another Access table called Part1. This allows a successful link to that field.

I don't know how to fix your problem, but this may be the cause...

Subject: [Vantage] ODBC Connection to Vantage 4.0 and Access 7.0

We currently installed the latest and greatest Merant SEQUELink
Progress ODBC driver. This driver can be used to connect to both
Progress 8 and Progress 9. We have successfully connected to all of
the Vantage 3.0 database Progress tables with ACCESS using the
driver. However, in trying to connect to the Vantage 4.0, Progress 9
tables, 15 tables are unable to connect. At this time, we are only
trying to connect, not create reports. The following are examples of
the error messages we are receiving for these tables:

InvoiceHeader - Invalid field definition 'SalesRepList' in
definition of index or relationship.

JobAsmbl - Invalid field definition 'Description' in
definition of index or relationship.

JobHead - Invalid field definition 'PartDescription' in
definition of index or relationship.

PartSug - The operation failed. There are too many indexes on
table 'vantage_PartSug'. Delete some indexes on the table and try the
operation again.

This is a BIG problem as we have developed very complex reports that
rely on the ability to connect to the tables.

Any advice? Thanks.
