Off Topic - Internet "Police"

No - it's a separate product that runs on it's own box. You install it on
top of NT-WS and then plug it into the same hub that feeds your internet
router. It simply listens in on the conversations going back and forth.
This is not a firewall product - just a sniffer.

I know this has been covered/asked before but when I search the archive
for the information, it gives me every e-mail posted on every subject.

Anyways, we are tyring to find a program that will let us view what
websites are accessed, when who and what time? Does anyone have any
suggestions?

Also did you make your employees sign a anything on company policy?

Thanks,
Dina
I use Crystal Reports. There is a canned report with Crystal that works
with MS Back Office and tells us all that information. Yes, we also have
users sign a internet policy. It basically says that the internet and email
is to be used for business use only and the internet can be used on your own
time for personal use. It also includes a statement that any information
gained by the web/email at work is company property. An important topic is
also 'offensive material', if a user has something that can be offensive to
another user, than the company is responsible and not the user.

Dina,

I've been using CAI - eTRUST software since last fall with good luck. It
also keeps track of all email.

I purchased it for tracking the web usage but when I saw the personal emails
and stupid attachments flying through I realized that web browsing wasn't my
problem.

These days when I grant someone access to the Internet I wait 1 day and then
print off where they've been through eTRUST and give it to them. The usual
response is "Oh, you can see exactly where I've been ??????". That's
usually the last time I see any activity on the web that isn't business
related.

Last August 90% of emails were personal in nature and 20% of them had
stupid, ha ha, attachments. Today, personal email is almost ZERO. Our
policy is """NO""" personal email. After a few employees were written up
the problem went away.

In both cases what keeps the situation under control is that the employees
know that we monitor both.

I saved a couple of the responses when we talked about it last. I copied
them below. Yes, we also have an Internet policy that people have to sign.
I could send you a copy if you would like.

I would like to find out what you guys are using to monitor email usage.
More specifically if we have users that are suspected of sending email all
day and not doing their work, which is the best package which will allow us
to see how many emails, to whom, etc. I am not concerned with the content.

Thank You.

Greg
Todd, does CAI-eTrust software have to be used with Exchange server?
