OT - Alternative Email Browsers

Eudora's addressbooks are just text files, stored in Eudora\NNdbase.txt for
the default list and Eudora\NickName\*.txt for any extras, so they're
fairly easy to manipulate outside the application.

I've used Excel to parse them into columns to import to other mail
programs, or turn "raw" lists into Eudora's format. Plug some sample
entries into one and take a look.

I really like OpenOfficeOrg. I'm getting ready to rollout quite a few ws
with it. But first, I have to figure out how to handle the email. We don't
use calendar, tasks, notes etc that are Outlook features. But we do need to
be able to export our Outlook addressbooks to whatever product we go to. I
was thinking of using Outlook Express, but thought I'd ask what alternative
email browsers you're using out there. There has to be a reasonable
alternative to Outlook for simple email handling.

Thanks,

Don't know about importing Outlook address books, but there is always
Qualcomm Eudora: www.eudora.com. I hesitate to use Outlook Express because
it is open to the same vulnerabilities as Outlook. In fact I think Outlook
requires Express to be installed from Office 2k on.

I've heard good things about eudora just this week from a computer tech. guy. Have never used it myself. He uses it for the same reason: safety from virus's.

Probably not the kind of solution you are looking for, BUT...

SquirrelMail ( www.squirrelmail.org <http://www.squirrelmail.org> ) makes
for a really slick web-based e-mail client with features like spell check,
rules, spam cop / filter, calendar, dictionary, Exchange server meeting
requests, notes, etc. Plus, best of all, it is GPLed. It is all
server-based, so you'd need an web server with PHP - but that would allow
your users to access their e-mail from anywhere.

I just bought the upgrade to Eudora and have been an Eudora fan for years. I believe that I saw an option to import address from both outlook and other e-mail programs
during the installation process. All you had to do is know where the files were located. I believe that you can also go in after the install and import other address
books.

It's a great product.

John or anybody,

Eudora seems pretty cool. Works fine. It seems to import OK from Outlook,
but do you know if Eudora will export addressbook and emails back out to
Outlook if needed? During the testing period, it would make things easier.

Gary,

I don't know the answer to that. I use Eudora at home so I will try to remember to check it out tonight
