James,
I have been using the same TrendMicro suite for my network, and I agree; it
is a very good package to work with. In addition, I am running their
ScanMail for Exchange, which has protected us from e-mail borne viruses for
the last three years now. I have various sytems checking for pattern and
scan engine updates hourly and pushing them down to clients on the fly,
unnoticed, and without interrupting anyone. Best of all; it truly is set
and forget. I verify the operations once a day, and it hasn't broken down
once. When a new breed of virus comes out, none of my servers have ever had
any problems accessing their sites to get pattern update, like eg. NAV has.
Another word of praise on the ScanMail product; it allows you to block
attachments of any type. That function alone has saved our precious
bandwidth from being wasted on "funny" .AVI's, .EXE's and .MP3's.
I am about to start testing their Spam blocker, hopefully it works just as
good as the other products.
With regards to Vantage speeds , and in answer to Randy's question; I get on
TrendMicro an average start-up time of 7 seconds as well. Server Protect
and Office Scan is not touching the Vantage drive. Unfortunately I don't
have the time to tweak each individual system in the company. If I could
put in this effort I am sure we could shave a second or so off of the time
it takes for the log on screen to pop up.
As a hint to everyone else;
I did have a few sytems that were acting up recently, and took randomly
twice as long to produce a log in screen. I finally found the cause of that
problem; in Win2K (and probably XP), under the properties of the Properties
tab of the NIC, the far right tab (Power Management) hides a setting that
allows the PC to turn off the NIC to conserve power!!! No other settings or
explanations. All of the randomly slow machines had this box checked. The
problem went away when I unchecked the box. Just an FYI....

I know this has been a topic of great discussion so I wanted to give you
guys a little heads up!
I just switched from Symantec Norton Corporate on my servers and
workstations
To Trend Micro's Server Protect & Office Scan
Nothing but great praises for the product
AND The MOST IMPORTANT THING!
My Vantage loads up ALOT Quicker than when I was running Norton.
Plus Trend Micro had a competitive upgrade so It cost me about the same
as what it would have to renew my Symantec license.
Two thumbs up for this product!!
Just thought I'd pass this along!
