OT-DCD Classic on W2000 Pro

Windows 2000 comes with apcompat.exe, a utility that may help with older
applications. It does not install by default, you will have to search
the Installation cd, it is on there somewhere.

Dan,

Baby 36 engine ran on Netware 3.12. Moved the entire app, lock, stock &

barrel to an NT server, using W3, W95, WNTW for clients. It ran
successfully for quite some time. Converted all that to Vantage
2.70.454,
then to 3.00. Now we have a client (my boss, the Plant Accountant)
running
W2000wks. The same setup for Classic (which ran fine for Win3, W95,
WNTW
on his old computers) doesn't function properly under 2000wks. I just
wondered if there was a secret to running old DOS apps under 2000wks.

Dan,

Epicor told us that Vantage 3 wasn't certified to run on W2K.
We run the clients under W2K, more or less ok, with some issues.

We however will not switch away from NT on the Vantage server until we upgrade.

Maybe you could get a cheap white box and load it with an old copy of NT server.

Trying to understand the question so bear with me.... you want to access
Classic on your AS/400 from Win2K workstations? Or trying to run Classic
altogether on Win2K? For the first it would depend on the AS/400's
communications setup and if you run can Ethernet from it versus the old
twin-axial. Twin-ax would required adapter cards in the PCs (Emerald/BOS/or
several others) plus terminals emulation software specific to the card.
Ethernet/TCP might be less costly starting from scratch and getting
emulation for many PCs. Check www.system3X.com <http://www.system3X.com>
for connectivity products. Before completely moving to Vantage we ran
Classic and Vantage at same time to 20 PCs as we gradually closed out
Classic jobs and ramped up in Vantage.

If trying to run Classic on server I don't think this is possible or at
least I never heard of it back in our Classic days.

Todd,

Classic runs fine (using a Baby36 platform) on Netware or on WNT
Server. No AS/400 are involved here. My problem stems from Win2000's
inability to run DOS apps. On WNTW, one can specify the Autoexec & Config
to run for any particular DOS app. W2000wks does its own flavor of DOS,
which apparently doesn't support "normal" DOS. In WNTW, the DOS ver is 5.0
(or thereabouts). W2000wks's ver is 5.00.2195, which supports a scrolling
window and probably some other features that I do not want to know
about. When attempting to run OCL (Operating Control Language) in W2000's
command windows, it becomes unresponsive (hangs, but indicates in Task
Manager that it is still running).
