[OT] Paychex Payroll

It takes me 3hrs a wk that includes processing all taxes 401k etc(
everything is done electonically). I dont know what adp or paychex charges
but I like the fact I have full control Since I am responsible I like that
control. As they say priceless!

at the start, a lot less than the internal costs. Back then we calculated
breakeven at about 200 employees. ADP cost has gone up and Paychex looks to
be a lot less than ADP was even back when we started with them. So I
suspect it would be hard to justify bringing it in-house again. Payroll now
takes about 3hrs a week for one person whereas before it was 1/2 a day,
every day. The cost of 1/2 person (with benefits, etc...) is still higher
than what we pay ADP now (or for sure higher than what we anticipate paying
Paychex).

We are considering switching from ADP payroll to Paychex (still too small to justify using Vantage payroll). Our CFO has asked me to check and see if anyone on this group has experience with Paychex and in particular if there have been any problems. Do you use it standalone on a PC or in a network mode?

Thanks,

Todd,

We use Paychex. Accounting seems to like it. They have all the features
they need. We have electronic time clocks hooked thru the network to the
server. Paychex picks it up from there and does the computing and
reporting. One thing to watch out for on this kind of system: When
rebooting the network make sure your paychex is turned off, or it will get
corrupted when rebooting while it's collecting data from the server. And
get surge protection for your timeclocks.

Thanks Gary. We will be using Vantage DC on plain PCs and manually entering hours totals (and convoluted OT hrs) from a Vantage RB report. So there will be no shop floor time clocks.

Todd, as of 7/1/03 we made the switch from ADP to Paychex. ADP's costs
just kept increasing, and so we looked around. Paychex is quite a bit
cheaper for us, and I really liked their software much better than ADP's.
The report writer is much easier to use and understand. We were using a
time clock software with ADP, and we kept that for the time being, and are
now working on a bridge between that software and Paychex. Other than
that, I believe a few very minor issues have come up, and Paychex corrected
them right away. I believe the software is just on a standalone PC right
now. Let me know if you have any other questions.......
