Rick,
On your NT server ...
From Control Panel / Modems
Click on modem - click on properties button - click on connection tab
Set "Disconnect a call if idle for more than .... "
I have ours set for 5 minutes.
Note: This works most of the time --- however, I've found some applications
like WRQ-Reflection via SNA host that hold the connection open in spite of
this setting. I suspect these applications are chatting back and forth on
their own as part of a refresh cycle.
Otherwise, this has helped a great deal. We had one guy logon in for 36
hrs on a long distance call prior to changing this.
Also, I generally buy external modems for our outside sales guys to have at
home. That way I can have the conversation about "See the little lights -
when most of them are on you are still connected conversation". Or, "Turn
it off when you are done ..."
Some days ....

Subject: [Vantage] [OT] Remote Access Time Limit
Does anybody know if there is a way to put either a total time limit or an
inactivity disconnect on the remote access service for NT 4.0? I just found
a road mechanic that was logged in for over 12 hours. Not only did that
call cost us $50 but it also locked out the other 6 mechanics and
salespeople because we only have one modem. Not good.
Thanks,
Rick
