Actually the really funny part would be when the users come to you and want
to know why the games they keep installing disappear when the PC reboots ???

I would like to have that struggle on video. Seems like hours of pure

It's cheap and very effective.

According to a friend of mine the "Clean Slate" product is also supposed to
be very amusing. Once installed and set no matter what users do the next
time they reboot the PC returns to it's "Frozen" state. Unlike Fortres
which stops them from changing anything Clean slate lets them have a good
time and then just resets on reboot. I'm told that eventually users get
tired of the tug of war and just give up.

You could invest in some Security Software. You could also remove the
CAB files from the PC so he would need the disk to re- install the
games. You can also remove the floppy and cd-rom drive if you feel so
inclined. Since he could copy the Sol.exe to floppies and load it that
way or bring his own win 95 cd from home.

games on
the 95 data collection computer. Does anyone know of a way to not allow
a
user to go into add/remove programs and install the games option in
windows?
(short of breaking his knuckles?)
I have already uninstalled it from add/remove, and the user just
installs them again. Is there another way to restrict this?

On ours I:
1. Removed (or never had) CD drive
2. Disabled floppy in BIOS
3. Password protected BIOS at startup
4. Tightened up network share access as much as possible
5. Deleted all game .exe files from wherever they are on disk
6. Put a big old note on the front stating that it is a "termination offense" to load software or change PC settings

The short fix is to rename \Windows\System\appwiz.cpl to appwiz.old and the
add\remove programs control panel will not display.

I forgot about pass wording and skipping the floppy in the bios. I do
that to all our shop machines. We also order PC's with out CD-ROM
drives. I have learned to be careful when ordering PCs. We got some
last year that you couldn't password the BIOS. Compaq brand.

We use Fortres as well. I have never had a problem. It can also be
customized very easily. I also bypass booting to floppy so no one can
put a startup disk in the PC. I also password the BIOS so they can't
change any of the settings. I have 30+ shop PC's. I would go nuts if I
didn't have Fortres.

You can do it for free with policy editor. Add a policy for either a login
name or the PC name. Lock down everything you want to including wallpapers,
screensavers, drive access, control panel. I set this up created a custom
start menu with nothing but the vantage software and locked everything.
Never had a problem. Best of all it is free.

I have an guy on our fab floor that keeps installing windows games on
the 95 data collection computer. Does anyone know of a way to not allow a
user to go into add/remove programs and install the games option in windows?
(short of breaking his knuckles?)
I have already uninstalled it from add/remove, and the user just
installs them again. Is there another way to restrict this?

I would like to have that struggle on video. Seems like hours of pure
entertainment. Maybe an idea for one of those lousy reality TV shows.

I guess the only caveat would be that if used on animals it would be
considered cruel and inhumane. Stick to humans. :~)

"Fortres" product.

It's cheap and very effective.

According to a friend of mine the "Clean Slate" product is also supposed to
be very amusing. Once installed and set no matter what users do the next
time they reboot the PC returns to it's "Frozen" state. Unlike Fortres
which stops them from changing anything Clean slate lets them have a good
time and then just resets on reboot. I'm told that eventually users get
tired of the tug of war and just give up.

You could invest in some Security Software. You could also remove the
CAB files from the PC so he would need the disk to re- install the
games. You can also remove the floppy and cd-rom drive if you feel so
inclined. Since he could copy the Sol.exe to floppies and load it that
way or bring his own win 95 cd from home.
