OT - Win2000 Question

Wayne,
It sounds like you went in under network setup (or shat ever its called)
thats good. But did you go into Control Panal > System > Network
Identification ??? You might need to set a few things there. Also on the
login in box, click on the details or options button . Make sure you are
logging in to the domain and not locally. Sorry this is missing a couple
specific names, I'm not in front of a 2000 PC... If it would help give me a
call.

Subject: [Vantage] OT - Win2000 Question

Hi All... was hoping someone out there with more Win2000 experience than
myself might be able to help with a problem.

I have installed it on a new machine, and cannot get any IP networking to
function. It has DHCP enabled, and is able to retrieve all its settings
from the server (verified though IPCONFIG /ALL) It also passes the 3Com
NIC diagnostics, including being able to broadcast to other 3Com NICs.

However, it can't see any other hosts on the LAN. Even the most simple
things - PINGing a server by IP address fail. Tried bypassing the DHCP and
setting static parameters for all the TCP/IP stuff, but still the
same. Also swapped in a different NIC, to no avail.

Any ideas?

-Thanks, Wayne Cox

Wayne,
You say you cannot ping other computers on the network; have you tried
pinging the localhost (127.0.0.1). If that fails then TCP/IP isn't setup
correctly. First thing I'd check is your subnet mask and default gateway.
Good luck!

If this is a new computer install with a new 3com nic you might want to
check your cable config. I had a similar problem with new 3com's and old
ethernet cable. The pinout config. I found works best is:
greenwhite/green orangewhite/blue bluewhite/orange brownwhite/brown.
Without this I could connect to the network but couldn't access anything.
