Another thing that causes loss of connectivity is when the NIC has a power
setting that by default says to allow the card to be turned off to save
power.
In Win98 look under the Network icon in the Control panel.

There are two other things you might try.
1 - make sure you have the latest drivers for the NIC. I had all sorts of
connection problems when our network was first installed. I downloaded new
drivers, and connection problems disappeared.
2 - Try setting the NIC to 10 half mode rather than autodetect. This also
eliminated occasional loss of connection to Vantage, while still maintaining
connection to the network.
What OS is running on your server, and is this the only XP work station? I
had one XP workstation that never worked well with W2000 Server. I erased
XP and installed W2000 Pro and all problems went away.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.
I have tried almost all of the great suggestion you guys/gals
posted, already. I tried moving the computer to a closer location
(next to the network server) and the problem is still there.
Reloaded, upgraded, user settings, beat it with a broom stick,
etc. . . been there done them, still no go.
I will be calling Vantage tech support, maybe they can make light of
it.
Thanks for everyone's help.
