Vantage 6.0 user issue

Another thing that causes loss of connectivity is when the NIC has a power
setting that by default says to allow the card to be turned off to save
power.
In Win98 look under the Network icon in the Control panel.

There are two other things you might try.

1 - make sure you have the latest drivers for the NIC. I had all sorts of
connection problems when our network was first installed. I downloaded new
drivers, and connection problems disappeared.

2 - Try setting the NIC to 10 half mode rather than autodetect. This also
eliminated occasional loss of connection to Vantage, while still maintaining
connection to the network.

What OS is running on your server, and is this the only XP work station? I
had one XP workstation that never worked well with W2000 Server. I erased
XP and installed W2000 Pro and all problems went away.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.

I have tried almost all of the great suggestion you guys/gals
posted, already. I tried moving the computer to a closer location
(next to the network server) and the problem is still there.
Reloaded, upgraded, user settings, beat it with a broom stick,
etc. . . been there done them, still no go.

I will be calling Vantage tech support, maybe they can make light of
it.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I have a user who can not log into vantage. We are using windows XP
pro. Network is working properly and maintains 100pps communication
speed. This is the only user that seems to be having this problem.
We have reloaded the computer for scratch several times, but problem
still there.

Any suggestions?

NONE! That's whats driving us nuts . . .
The "Vantage" screen apears, then disappears and that's all that
happens. No log on screen ever appears. Let it run for hours and
nada.

Tried: Rebooted, reloaed windows XP pro from scratch, reloaded
Vantage from scratch, etc. . . still nada. Repeated this several
times.

:(
Dazed and confused
P.s. called Epicor and reviewed with epicor tech - no known cause
identified.
Ben -

What are your ping times between the station and the server?
Test both by IP and server name. Have heard of this problem
with bad cabling and/or too much distance w/XP clients.

I've seen problems like this with older onboard NICs. After turning off the
NIC in the bios and adding a PCI NIC everything worked. I first saw this
problem on two identical machines. After cloning the machine that would run
Vantage to the one that would not I got the same results, so it had to be
hardware. That was the first thing I tried and it fixed the problem. Other
than that I have seen the individual network run be the problem. Can you
move the machine into another office and try it?

Ben

I've seen this when the user doesn't have proper drive mappings. I have
mappings for both my progress (epic52) and epicor folders. If the progress
is mapped but not the epicor folder it will do exactly as you described.
Splash screen and that's it.
The other case where I have seen this is if the user has a trigger
finger and launches multiple sessions before the first one has come up -
none will load. Try opening task manager and launch Vantage. See if you have
more than one prowin32.exe is running.

Benny,

Try this. Uninstall Progress. Reboot and log in as a LOCAL administrator.
Do not log into your domain. Install progress and Vantage and pick the save
setup for all machines (or something like that ) box. Reboot and log in as
a domain Administrator. Try Vantage and see if you can log in. If you can
log in then log out and try your users account. If they can log in great.
If not, log back in as a administrator and look at the properties for the
Vantage work directory. Give Authenticated Uses' full priv's to this
directory. Have the user log back in and try again. If ok, Great! If not,
one more thing to do. Log back in as as administrator, go to Control Panel
and then User Accounts. Use ADD and create a local user account for that
user and make them a Power User. If that still does not work, email me off
line and I will call you. XP is really touchy about protection and I am
sure that's the problem.
