Part numbers and Multi-Plant

Hi All,

E9.05.702A

We are looking at setting up Epicor with multiple plants to separate certain functionality.
One item that we are looking to share across plants is part numbers.
I’m testing it out but is the only way to make a part number shared across plants by specifying all the plants in Part Entry?

Yes,
Part Entry -> Plant lets you know to which Plant that part is available. You can then setup Alt Method for each plant if they are to be built “differently”

Thanks Jose.

After my company originally purchased the software, we added the multi-plant module because of some of the functionality that it provides. Mainly we were looking for the functionality of doing the shipping paperwork and transfer tracking that transfer orders takes care of. It’s actually simpler than entering sales orders, though we have found some bugs in this functionality when using it with the Advanced Material module.

Part numbers are shared across plants, but there is specific setup for each plant. In order to have inventory for that part in a plant, you must create a plant record for that part number. Also, you’ll have to specify what seems to be duplicate settings for each part and part plant record. For example, just as you have a per-part setup for Manufactured, Purchased, or Kit, and Non-Stock and Quantity Bearing, you have similar setup for each plant. You can set the source for each plant to be Manufactured, Purchased, Kit, or Transfer by default so that MRP knows where to get more product for that plant.

One thing that is difficult for us (truly multiplant PA WV TX) is the fact that you cannot do cross plant jobs. I would ensure that you consider this when evaluating pros and cons of multiplant setup.

Very true – jobs crossing over Plants is tricky. We got around it by making a Job for a unique part number in Plant A, transferring that Part to Plant B and consuming it as a material on the Job in Plant B.

If I recall correctly, E10 more fully addresses the multi-plant job use case.
