Perform Task On A Schedule

Just chatted with support and it should be standard on 10.1a and up.

As far as I was told this would be added to licenses on anything after
8.03.400.

If this is 8.03.400 you will have to get a new license number for progress

I used the OpenEdge data administration tool to connect to my pilot
database, then I used the procedure editor to create a query. I saved it as
a .p file. When I try to run the .p file I get an error saying about
licensing for the app builder.

A progress program is really just the same code you would use in a BPM
correct? Is there any special formatting involved to point it to the correct
database?

Subject: [Vantage] Perform Task On A Schedule

Hi,

Looking for ideas on how to accomplish this... I need to check every hour
how long a record has existed in UD01, if it has been in this table for 8
hours I want to perform an action on the record. Each record has a time
stamp when it was added. Is there a way with a schedule in Epicor I could do
this or any other possible ways?

Thanks,

One way would be to hang on a BPM that is triggered often (IE, Save
Order..., Save Job)

it won't be necesarely on a schedule but it will happen often enough that
it should catch fairly close to the 8th hour mark.

Forgot to mention we are running a progress database, this would be easy to do with SQL.

ReportMonitor.GetRowsKeepIdleTime method would work too I think... are there any methods that would always run not requiring the client to be open?

I don't think so,
What we have done is written a small service that starts Vantage up as soon
as the server comes up to ensure that our schdules and such run properly

Can't you do a 4gl / abl program and fire it using Microsoft scheduler?

Subject: [Vantage] Perform Task On A Schedule

Hi,

Looking for ideas on how to accomplish this... I need to check every hour how long a record has existed in UD01, if it has been in this table for 8 hours I want to perform an action on the record. Each record has a time stamp when it was added. Is there a way with a schedule in Epicor I could do this or any other possible ways?

Thanks,
-Ted

You could install SQL Express for free, created a linked server and run it
all with SQL Scheduler. SQL Scheduler isn't enabled on the SQL Express
version, but there's a freeware utility out there that's very good and
reliable (I use it).

You can call .p without the need for another program. They can be run
directly from the scheduler.
If you search the list there were a couple topics on this a few months back.

Just check what version progress you are on for the correct license codes to
run the .p externally. Don't quote me but 8.03.400 will need new license
and above should come with open license.

A progress program is really just the same code you would use in a BPM correct? Is there any special formatting involved to point it to the correct database?

I used the OpenEdge data administration tool to connect to my pilot database, then I used the procedure editor to create a query. I saved it as a .p file. When I try to run the .p file I get an error saying about licensing for the app builder.

As far as I was told this would be added to licenses on anything after
8.03.400.

If this is 8.03.400 you will have to get a new license number for progress
from support.

I used the OpenEdge data administration tool to connect to my pilot
database, then I used the procedure editor to create a query. I saved it as
a .p file. When I try to run the .p file I get an error saying about
licensing for the app builder.

A progress program is really just the same code you would use in a BPM
correct? Is there any special formatting involved to point it to the correct
database?

I use a .net program to run progress .p programs that is called by windows
task scheduler.

Thanks,
-Ted
