Problem with BAQ Report Designer

OK, I figured out the problem, self inflicted unfortunately.
Yesterday while working on a custom version of the traveler I had the
bright idea to shorten the folder named CustomReports to Custom.
That caused a problem with this process. I noticed the problem while
in the middle of creating this BAQ report and changed the folder name
back, but it was apparently too late to get the rpt file made. I
deleted the BAQ Report and started over and everything was fine this
time.

Thanks for the assistance.

I'm trying to do my first BAQ Crystal report. I'm following along with
the example in the Tools guide. After generating the sample data and
clicking on Design Crystal Report it sounds like Crystal is supposed to
open with a blank report template with the rpt named and the data
connection made. When I do it, Crystal opens to the Getting Started
screen and does nothing else.

Anyone have an idea for me? I called support and they weren't much
help but sent their document with the steps to create a BAQ. One thing
that differs between their document and the tools guide is the location
of the Sample Data Directory. Where should that and the local reports
directory be pointed to?

Thanks,

Brian Stenglein
Don't follow the training guide. When I used to teach the class, I'd
change it up a little. I *never* use Generate Sample Data.

Once you create your BAQ Query and BAQ Report, go to ACTIONS and Test
Report Form.

Press the Preview button. It will generate XML data in your
MFGSYSDATA\Reports folder. It will launch a blank report. Close it.

Pick up that XML file in your Mfgsysdata\reports folder and move it
locally to your PC. A local working directory.

Open the Crystal RPT. Hit F5 to Preview and point to that local copied
XML file. Add the BAQReportResult table in DB Expert. Save. Now
design your report. If you need to add fields in the BAQ, do so and
repeat this process and delete/rename the local copy of the previous XML
file while Crystal is CLOSED. Open CR again and hit F5 and it will not
find the previous XML file, so it'll prompt you to look for it. Now
point it to your revised XML and it'll update the necessary fields.
Also always do a Verify Database under the Database menu in CR.

HTH.

As soon as you initially create your BAQ Report in the BAQ Report
Designer and you hit SAVE, Vantage will dump a blank, template Crystal
Report in \epicor\mfgsys803\Server\reports\CustomReports

Open it from there. It will be waiting for you.

Dear Brian:

The instructions in the Epicor Tools User Guide are too basic and not
much help. Epicor publishes an AnswerBook on this topic which is
much greater help.

Go to the Epicor website and print out AnswerBook # 1705MPS
titled "BAQ Instructions for creating a Crystal Report from a BAQ in
BAQ Report Designer".

In Part B of these instructions, they tell you to Define the Report
Options. You need to verify 3 locations: the location of your CR
executable, the location of your Sample Reports Directory, and the
location of your Local Reports Directory.

You need to (1) make sure that these are correct and (2) write down
the complete path of your Sample Data directory because you will need
the location of the Sample Data in Part G of the instructions when
you design your Crystal Report.

I have found that the defaults for these 3 directories are not always
consistent. I always check them. For example, I needed to change my
CR executable path from a v11 directory to a v11.5 path. And, if you
are set up for "Multi-Company", the default will change according to
what company you are working in.

If you follow this Answerbook precisely, you should be able to create
a BAQ Report as Epicor intended.

And as you assumed, if all of your directories are pointed correctly,
then the "Design Crystal Report" command should launch CR and
directly open a blank.rpt file. You are correct; it should not be
opening to the "Getting Started" page.

Good luck.

Lynn
