Progress 9.1d patch 9

I had a similar issue when I installed the patch and it turns out that the server port number changed. I was told by support that the correct port number is 20931. Once I changed this I was able to see and access my databases. This is changed within the Progress Explorer.

Hello, Installed the patch for Progress 9.1d patch 9 per Epicor
instructions, installed the hotfix right after it. Now when I reboot,
I do not have any of my databases in my progress explorer tool. Any
Ideas? Why would it have blown away the config? Anyone know the file
explorer creates containing all my old DB info for progress explorer?
It backed it up when it did the install so I should be able to restore
or read the appropriate file.

Any help would be appreciated.

Pat,

I just performed the same installation, but all my databases are in Progress
Explorer.
The only strange thing... the administrator password for Progress Explorer
changed??

So far... no other problems.

Not sure what you are getting so if you don't see the localhost under
the tree item Progress Explorer, then right click it and select "Add
Progress Server". Enter the appropriate information. When you see the
local host item show up, right click it and select connect. You should
see your databases.

I want to take the Employee Effeciiency * (Direct Hours / Pay Hours). Does
anyone know how I can get this easily. I am looking at the LaborDtl Table
and I can see the earned hours and the labor hours, which I think will get
me the effeciency, and direct hours, but I can't seem to figure out how to
get the pay hours or total hours clocked in from anywhere. Does anyone have
a report like this or any ideas on how to get it. When we complain about
employee effeciency, we see a sudden rise in indirect or nothing clocked in.
This makes their effeciency look better, but it is still non production
time. Just trying to come up with a guage on how effecient we are and
taking all paid hours into account.

Thanks,

Jeff Lionberger

The pay hours are in the LaborHed File, you can merge the payhours from
the LaborHed file to the LaborDtl direct hrs using the LaborHedSeq
column.

There may be several LaborHedSeq entries per day depending an how many
times an employee clocked in & out. You will also need to understand how
your

Clock in and out grace periods are setup in the system.

This is why efficiency is one of the poorest indicators to use. There's a
mindset that says, "I'm paying them, keep 'em busy" and this mindset can
cost you more than keeping them idle. Once you "fix" your efficiency report
to account for indirect time, I predict you will see what was popular here
in the auto industry. The shop will start to run jobs that make them look
efficient even though they're not making parts that you actually need. They
will also put off harder-running jobs with standards that are tough to meet.
Delinquencies and inventory go up but at least you're efficient! (YAY!)

I highly recommend the easy-reading novel "The Goal" by Eliyahu M. Goldratt.
(At Amazon: http://tinyurl.com/9cfdg) He is the Father of the Theory of
Constraints. Briefly, this theory says that the speed of the whole operation
is the only thing that matters and that in your process there is one
operation - the constraint, i.e. the slowest operation - that sets the
speed. This is the ONLY operation where efficiency matters. Any time spent
on making the other operations more efficient is a wasted effort since the
system can't go faster than the constraint. If you force others to go faster
then you're going to get material build up behind it (creating storage and
rework issues) and you'll be starving the later operations.

Did I mention that efficiency reports blow?

;-)

I find the efficiency report in vantage pretty useless. It bases the
efficiency on units reported (if that is how you relieve your schedule
as we do). So if worker A finishes 1000, but doesn't report them and
worker B does 2, but reports 1002, he does great while the first worker
looks bad. The productivity calculation of utilization times efficiency
(overall) will show the error of pumping up indirect hours to gain
efficiency.
