Projects in 6.1

We use this all the time, but never to import into Vantage.
That definitely does not work.

Is anyone using Projects in 6.1 in conjunction with MS
Project? There
is an export / import engine in Vantage, but the import
engine is
unable to remap the fields. We can export Project X and
immediately
try to import it and Vantage gets confused. Tech Support
has not only
replicated the problem, they have been unable to get it to
work
either. After months of mostly one way communication, we
have finally
been told that it is a Microsoft Project problem and they
do not
support MS Project. Of course, the import engine in
inside Vantage,
the file is unchanged from the exported version and I seem
to recall
sales pitch 18 months ago that proudly promoted the fact
that Vantage
was Microsoft Gold Certified. Grrrr...

Is anyone using the Projects feature of Vantage 6.1? We have three
production departments under one roof that somewhat function as
different plants, although we are only using a single plant in
Vantage. Each department produces items that are sold individually,
but that are also sold as components of a "project". The customers
of these "projects" are purchasing a single "project" while
receiving up to 12 (often configured) components from various
departments. I would like to show the "project" on quotes, sales
confirmations, shipping documents, etc., with the actual componenets
showing up as some kind of project detail.

Although our early research in to the Project feature shows that it
was designed for internal project tracking, is anyone doing anything
similar to what we want to do? We have been unable to configure
beyone the top level of a BOM, so we are hoping to tweak the Project
feature into something we can use.

Any ideas??

We are still on 5.2... but I attended a project session at perspectives, it
was on version 8.0 and one of the things they shower was the export / import
and it appeared to work. Tim Ligas was the presenter and he even ran into a
stumbling block once when he did not have the excel file heading names
correct, but it did work. I seem to recall he had to export it out of
project into excel and the upload the excel file into vantage. Since I had
never seen it before I didn't catch everything. It seemed to be very picky
as to excel file name and field names. You might want to try contacting Tim
to see if he can help you?
