Report Data Definitions

oops, sorry about that garbled stuff on bottom...Its the gridview of what my proposed dashboard looks like comparing a system RDD of PackSlip to a Modified of PackSlip where I added SNTran table and added some fields to OrderDtl.

When I get that dashboard written I will put it out on site.

Wow, I am sooo glad I brought up this discussion. This is great. Is this general knowledge? I didn't even know this existed? Where has this been? I have always re-created the definition in Live....ugh? When you say you "imported" it? ok for SQL for Progress? So once the definition is there is it useable by a modified crystal report that uses it. i.e. I have modified the RDD for PackList that includes other fields, other tables, addl criteria,et. I'm a little leary....
Why wouldn't this just be a command within the RDD??? Actions Export.

So now my real question hasn't been answered...Once I have my RDDs how has everyone kept track of the changed RDD compared to the System RDD. So what I was thinking is creating a dashboard that compares the two...
i.e. RDD PackSlip to Modified Packslip1.

I just downloaded the referenced report and got it to work. The
connection string wants three things:
Data Source=<Your Vantage Server Name>;
Initial Catalog=<Your Database Name: MfgSys803, MfgTrain803, etc>;
Trusted_Connection=True

I found a definition I had on one database that wasn't in the other,
exported it, then imported it into the other system. Worked like a
charm! Where was this during my last upgrade!

Jim Pratt

I have added a combo box to the Quote entry screen that allows our Quote guy
to select an FOB from the FOB table. Everything seems to be working fine I
have it being displayed on the quote so it is getting entered into the DB
but if he clears the screen and goes back to the quote field displays the no
value selected option. Instead of what he entered the last time he was
working on the quote. I have scoured the setting for the combo box and
nothing popped out at me saying change this setting. Can someone tell me
what I'm missing. I have compared all the settings to the Shipvia combo box
and everything seems to be set the same. Except for the fields that have to
be different.

Thanks!

Yes, that might be your issue. Ultra Combo requires a retriever to go get the FOB info. When just doing a combo you have to provide a static list and it doesn't live anywhere in the DB?

For most I do a screen print in Excel. It's certainly not bulletproof.

Subject: [Vantage] Report Data Definitions

What is everyone's procedure on keeping track of modified Report Data
Definitions; i.e. what fields you added; what tables you added; what
criteria you added. I was thinking of writing a Dashboard like I have
one for BAQ Queries
that shows me a quadrant for Queries, a quadrant for those queries
tables, fields, criteria, etc....

Nice thing about Customizations you can keep track of what was done in
Notes (E9). Maintenance you can pull up a Customization and show the
Custom Data. Looking for a similar process?

My procedure is a good backup of the database. :-)

That's a great question and brings me back to another item on my Vantage
wishlist: The ability to export Report Data Definitions to XML as we
can BAQs.

For most I do a screen print in Excel. It's certainly not bulletproof.

Vic,
I found a report data definition exporter in the files on this user site (http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/vantage/files/Reports%20-%20Report%20Export%20Utilit/). I did the install and ran it - it was looking for an ODBC source and the string we use didn't work. I got distracted with other things and never made it back to look at it further. Have you looked into it?

Hey Jenn, thank you very much!

Actually, I have seen that and ran against the same wall you did. I
gave up. If I really wanted to, I guess I could write something in SQL
to mimic this process. Thanks for the reminder!

Vic

I just downloaded the referenced report and got it to work. The connection string wants three things:
Data Source=<Your Vantage Server Name>;
Initial Catalog=<Your Database Name: MfgSys803, MfgTrain803, etc>;
Trusted_Connection=True

I found a definition I had on one database that wasn't in the other, exported it, then imported it into the other system. Worked like a charm! Where was this during my last upgrade!

Report Definition Description System Report Type Report Definition Description System Report Type Duplicate Of
PackSlip Packing Slip TRUE Crystal PackSlp Packing Slip Modified FALSE Crystal PackSlip
Rpt Table ID Sequence Primary Table SystemFlag Rpt Table ID Sequence Primary Table SystemFlag
