Roll codes, really no effect on the system?

Would anyone be willing to verify what they help system says about role codes? I want to use them for internal reference, but I’m a little hesitant since some of the options are for resource group and time and expense related items. Help says it’s fine, but I would like another source.

Role Code and Role Description are the only required fields, all other fields like Resource Group are optional.

The two places I know that use Role Codes:

  • Alternate Costs for Projects
  • Task Sets for assignments

Ok, so now I want to try and use them, so I create a roll conde, and the role code search field in the employee maintenance is grayed out. Any idea why? We have project management (although we don’t use it). Anyone know why?

There’s no New Role Code on the Menu?

It’s greyed out, I can’t select it.

And I looked a little harder, we have a bunch of role codes already defined. It doesn’t help me, but they’ve been there.

So I found out, I need the project billing module (not just project management) in order to use this.

Looks like it’s time for a UD field…

Ah, and we do have it. So that makes sense. Click the link at the bottom of the help screen and suggest they add that to the documentation. Staci will take care of it.

Glad this topic is here. I couldn’t figure out why we could not use it.

It is not in the help.

So that means without project billing that we cannot use the task sets that we set up that are linked to role codes? Odd. We are using Quoting and Case management and have tasks defined for those.
