Running reports from an icon on the desktop

There are some "home grown" utilities on the eGroups files that will allow you to do this. Lonnie is still working on one which will allow you to schedule reports or "Run Right Now" any RB report in your arsenal. Another one is designed to allow an input of a date range before running a report (all from an icon outside of RB or Vantage).

Anyone else care to comment?

I don't remeber seeing anything on how to run a Report Builder report from
an Icon. How do you do this? I have an RMA report I would like to do.

Are the financial reports written in Epicor's Financial Report Writer, or
are they Progress reports within Vantage, or are they written in Report
Builder?

I believe only Report Builder reports could be run from icons outside of
Vantage.

We want our Department Managers to be able to run their budget
reports from an icon on their desktop to keep from giving them access
to all of the financial reports. Our Machining Manager, for example,
has eleven budgets or cost centers to review and budget for. We
would like to have a report icon where he enters the year and
accounting period and the reports sent to his screen where he could
review them and/or print them. We do not want to give everyone
access to all of the financial reports. Has anyone done this or know
how to. I am an accountant and not very proficient in this type of
thing.

We are on version 5.0 patch 329. We just converted from 4.0 and are
considering upgrading to 5.1. Does any one have any experience, good
or bad, with 5.1. We don't want to go there if it has the same
problems as 5.0 did in the beginning.

Thanks for any ideas and information.

If the reports are written in the progress 4gl, it is theoretically
possible to set up an icon that would run them. You would need to create
a Progress program to call each of the programs in turn, and then by a
process of trial and error work out what environment needs to be created
by your new program so that the reports get all the information that
they need to work. About a year ago someone posted list of some shared
variables that are required, but I can't find it now.

Mot much help I am afraid. But where there is hope there is life.
