Yeah, we do exactly the same thing. The problem arises from
maintaining that list. See we build signs for large companies that
almost all have different Ship To's on each sign (each are usually
franchised). So 1 sign in Florida will have 1 taxable status, and
another a completely different status. And then rarely do we use the
same ShipTo again, so it becomes a gigantic list.
In our Exempt category list we have Delivery, Engineering, Freight,
Install, Leases, Maintenance, Permits, Product, and Service. Each
one can have a different Exempt status based on location. As rates &
Exempt statuses change, it's become a nightmare to maintain. We even
have certain customers that are Exempt from tax all together.
I'm looking for some type of automated process that creates the
jurisdictions, assigns the correct Sales Tax rate, and then sets the
Exempt status. Then when we setup the Customer we can choose the
right Tax Disctrict and not worry about the rate or exempt status
being incorrect.
