Salesperson Commissions

tammy, we have a simple pay structure where the outside salespeople make a
base salary, then are paid a percentage of gross profit (not a percentage of
sales) from their accounts. although in the past we have had proposals to
implement a sliding scale, pay only upon collection, etc we've resisted the
temptation to get complicated. outside salespeople also have expense
account privlidges, mileage allowances along with the other std. benefits.
inside salespeople are on a similar plan, base + percentage of gross margin
along with other std benefits (but no expense account or mileage allowance).
the commission percentage for inside sales is smaller that for outside
sales.

for reporting, we use the sales region field to designate the outside sales
code, salesperson field to designate the inside sales code and sort the
commission report as required. i'll directly email both inside commission
and outside commission reports to you (respectivily, they are really
commission report by salesperson and commission report by sales region).
they are no things of beauty, the salespeople like to see line by line what
'they' shipped and how much commission they earned on each shipment- once i
thoughtfully made a summary version, but was confined to my keyboard until i
made the old detail report come back.....james martin

God bless each of us and our Country.

What is your pay structure? Would you be willing to share your report with
me? I would like to look it over and see if it will meet our needs. Thanks
for your assistance.
Does anyone use the salesperson commission feature (I use this term
loosely) in Vantage? I would really like to use the feature so we could
have the ability to link commissions to jobs and margins, but I have a big
problem with the visibility of the commission rate. It appears that the
developer of the commission feature thought that the commission rate should
be public information. It shows up in three areas of order entry
(salesperson, change log, summary), in order tracker and probably somewhere
else. I was going to have custom programming work on subcomponent security
until I realized all the areas where this information is displayed. Any
comments on this matter would be appreciated.

Your comments are right on. Due to this deficiency in Vantage we end up
exporting the sales activity to Excel where we can maintain the privacy of
the commission calculation.

alex- we found the commission 'feature' ill-suited to our pay structure and
i would agree that commission rate should not be public information in most
situations. we used report builder calculate commissions instead of paying
for custom programming. could that be an option for you? our commission
plan is simple, so the report is not very sophisticated- i'd be glad to
share it with you if you want? james
