Heads up!
Perspectives did have a class by Intermec. The goal was to have available in
the spring for version 8 a kit you could buy from intermec for Vantage. For
$10k or $15K you unpack a wireless network hub, wireless printer, couple of
scanners, etc... Obvious options such as we need 3 scanners not 2. Dell like
instructions to unpack and setup hardware which you power on and the devices
find each other that can be setup in 1 or 2 hours. Epicor's side is to start
integrating transactions like material issues and returns, bin transfers,
cycle counting, shipping, etc.... Something you might want to ask your
Account Rep about at epicor.

I'm with you on this one Shirley, we need Epicor's help in making this make
sense.

Ah the Holy Grail, - here are your issues, at the moment you need to use a
keyboard wedge wedded to a computer of some sort. Forget about handheld RF
scanners, for the moment. There is no way to get the data into Vantage. If
you put a box by your shipping doc you will need to drive each package
within arms length of the computer. I say arms length because that is going
to be reach of your keyboard wedge. You need to start at your receiving doc
and fill the pipe line of your shop with barcodes. The most mobile option
possible are tablet pcs and a wireless network. Say thousands for a
comprehensive wireless network for the factory, 5k each for a ruggedized
Tablet (not laptop). My suggestion is walk through your shop and make note
of where you want to scan, then ask yourself 1. How does the label get on
the container in the prior step? 2. How and where is it printed? 3. Who
prints the label. 4. What information needs to be on the label. When you
complete this exercise try explaining to upper management this information.
They will cite places like Home Depot does this all the time. Bar coding
your shop is a huge effort in time and money.

We recently started barcoding our products (for our customers benefit). Now
we want to take this to the next level and be able to interface with
Vantage. We want to be able to scan our products as we load shipments in
order to help prevent shipping errors. We would also like to use the
scanners to take our physical inventory. I would like to be able to scan a
part number and then type the quantity into the scanner.

Does anyone do anything like this or have any ideas? Epicor has not offered
me any good solutions to this.
