Thad,
Thanks to you and others for the info as we are going to go from 3.0 to
5.0 during our July 4th shutdown week and need all the information we
can get. And by the way, we live at the home of "Krispy Kreme"
doughnuts, (with "K"s) and we'll get them weekly from one vendor or
another.

Subject: [Vantage] Server - House Cleaning
Greg,
Yes, I have to admit that cleaning a house is less cumbersome
then buying
and moving into a new one.
We had similar problems when upgrading our server. It wasn't
the server
Vantage was on, but things were Very Slow. (how can a 900MHZ
machine become
slower than a 133MHZ novell box?)
It ended up being a TCP / IP stack registry key change.
The guys at www.waypointnetworksolutions.com were the ones that
fixed it.
They're located in central CA, and willing to travel. They are
the most
knowledgeable, professional I've seen, and bring us Doughnuts
every time
they visit us - Crispy Creme Doughnuts.
They might be able to resolve your problem over the phone. Tell
them
Thaddeus refered you.
You'll want to check your resource meters on the server, and on
the
workstation when trying to log on to vantage. If neither of the
workstations are showing very high CPU useage, it could be a
switch or
other network hardware issue, or drivers, or some needed
registry change.
If the CPU is tach'd out, than the machine may just be too slow.
Of course, the fact that your fast machines do just fine
indicates that it
probably isn't the exact same problem we had.
Is the performance problem specific to clients with a certain
operating
system? You may want to do some large file transfer on the
server, and see
if the performance issue is only affecting vantage, or if it is
affecting
all network thouroughput between the server and the affected
clients.
You probably already have, but make sure the registry has been
cleaned on
both the client and server machines from old versions, but not
"over-cleaned"
Good Luck,
