Service Connect - 9.05.700+

Dragging up an old post here,  Chris would you have a link to your SC presentations?  I'm in the process of working out how to create a new HDCase through service connect so we can link it to ITSM.

Cheers
Simon Hall
Throwing this out there for those who may not know, because I didn't.

Starting with Service Connect version 9.05.700, you can communicate directly with the business objects, rather than web services! You import the business objects, just like you would the web service, and boom. From what I was told, much faster communication.
Yes this is true, however, this only functions with Epicor 9 and uses the .NET assemblies/business object which is MUCH faster. Also, for those of you that did not know, you can use Service Connect 9.x with Vantage 8 with the web services and still get almost all of the functionality other than direct connection to the business objects from the latest version of Service Connect. You can use database connections where you can connect to any database through ODBC, or whatever and make update, select, and other query statements. There are new features for conversions and sub-workflows as well as new multi-threading and asynchronous processing and many more useful features.

For those of you attending Epicor Insights in Nashville, I will be presenting on Service Connect and how you can integrate all of your business through Service Connect into Epicor on Tuesday morning.

Not that I have found. I had designed workflows in SC8 and then after the upgrade to SC9 they still worked just fine. If you are using SC9 with V8 you still use the web methods, since that does not change there was no issue. I have designed dozens of workflows and SC9 with all of its new features is great.

Not if you stick with the WSE web services, if you convert them to .net assemblies (either by hand or the converter) you’ll need to shore up a few things… There’s a tremendous difference between how WSE runs and how the .net assemblies work. With the WSE you could be pretty sloppy and get away with a lot, the .net assemblies are a lot less forgiving with regards to data mapping and other things. For the most part it isn’t too bad.

Once I get back from Insights, I am moving at least our most worked workflow over to .net. I would think there will be decent performance gains. I'll compare the load times for each, then.

I don’t see MUCH faster, I do see generally somewhat faster… it’s so hard to tell, with 9 vs 8 because of all the performance differences between the two with regards to the coding much less the interfaces. 9 just doesn’t have the performance 8 did in general. I never bothered to develop a new workflow in 9 using WSE web services so I can’t compare apples to apples with the same workflow new in 9, one running WSE/WCF vs .net….

Throwing this out there for those who may not know, because I didn't.

Starting with Service Connect version 9.05.700, you can communicate directly with the business objects, rather than web services! You import the business objects, just like you would the web service, and boom. From what I was told, much faster communication.
