Shipment Tracking

Yeah, we customized that... Now we can ship or "un-ship" directly from
the master pack header... Epicor should really fix that part. It gets
tricky if your freight through AgileShip. Now if we could just get box
content... We need to know the content and value of each package we
ship. Does anybody have a solution for that one? (Other than one pack
slip per box- we have pretty big pieces, 2 per box. Shipping 100 means
50 pack slips...)

Thanks!

True. Purely from an operational point of view, we don't use it (not
that we have much use for it anyway) - too much extra work involved.

But if it's only for a few shipments, rather than an every day thing,
then it might suffice.

Anybody using the Shipment Tracking Feature in 6.0 to track freight
shipments. I've got it working nicely with UPS and FED EX, but the
freight companies I've tried it with (USF, Yellow, Roadway, CCX)
don't work the same. I have support checking on it, but I thought
I'd run it by the group while I'm waiting.

Brian,

I have set up FedEx, UPS, DHL, Airborne and one other, I think it was
something like Emmory or something like that.

If I can be of any assistance, let me know.

Can't help you, but I am interested in this module. Did you find any
gotcha's in using this? We want the shipping system to interface with UPS,
input the tracking number into the shipper automatically and add the freight
to the invoice as well.

Have you tried this?

If I am not mistaken you are looking for one of the third party add on
shipping modules from Epicor. I found they were too limited for my
needs yet overdone where I didn't need it...

So...I set up a barcode to scan on the packing slip to get you into the
packing slip header, then scan the barcode on the tracking label. I had
to create a custom procedure to cut down the FedEx tracking barcode to
only the tracking number, but other than that, it is rather slick.

We are not grabbing the info directly from the shipping software, but I
have heard others are doing that, or something similar. At this point
we ARE using the tracking feature from within the shipment header, and
using the tracking number to automatically generate a shipment
notification that gets sent from Vantage (including some basic customer
information, order information, and tracking information) to the
customer.

Others may be able to be of more help with the third party modules.

A BIG Thanks to Joe Konecny who e-mailed me a file off-list with
several URL's for different tracking web-sites. It looks like it
contains most of the shipping companies I was looking for. There may
be a few more I'll need to figure out, but this was a great start.

Currently when our Shipping Dept. Ships they will fill pallets with
whatever they can fit on them and then slap the shipping labels on the
pallet's with the correct labels for each pack slip. We now need to
track what is shipped on each pallet even if 2 pallets have the same
part number they now need to have a unique ID assigned to each pallet.

We had to develop something like that right out of the gate. I almost
wish I had more time as I may have gone about it in an entirely
different manner because during implementation I knew so little about
customizations...but because it works(for us) I haven't spent anytime
theorizing other solutions. We aren't required to have a unique ID, but
you could take this solution if it fits your business case and using
either customizing the form or the crystal report, generate a unique ID.
Here is our solution;

Our shipping labels must reflect the correct quantities on each pallet.
When packing product for shipment personnel follow two basic rules.

1) If a pallet/carton is to contain multiple part numbers, those
part numbers cannot cross multiple pallets, they must all fit on one
pallet/carton.

2) A single part number may cross multiple pallets/cartons but must
remain homogenous across all pallets.

3) This rule is for a single packing slip, for us, which can be for
multiple sales orders, lines and releases going to the same ship to
address.

The limitation to this system is the assumption that any one packing
slip will contain no more than 20 pallets or cartons. For us this is a
very safe limitation. For your business it may or may not be.

Once all parts have been scanned to a packing slip the shipper goes to
the list tab where we have customized the form to show user defined
fields Number01 through 20. We labeled the headers P01, P02, etc. In
the list tab it will of course show each part number on a line. They
enter the quantities located on each pallet by pallet ID.

Example 1 if packing slip 201 had 4 part numbers (123A, 456B, 789C,
001D) in quantities of 2, 5, 8, 18 respectively on one pallet, in column
P01 they would type in on line 1 (123A), 2, line 2, 5, line 3, 8, and
line 4 (001D), 18.

Example 2 if packing slip 202 had one part number 872A for a quantity of
13 across 3 pallets in column P01 (line 1) they would type 4, column
P02, 4, column P03, 5.

My crystal report for the shipping label is customized to recognize this
configuration and print one label for each user defined number field it
finds a value that does not equal zero for each unique part number.
Example 1 would get them 4 labels with correct part numbers in
quantities of 2,5,8, and 18, example 2 would result in three labels, all
the same part numbers with quantities of 4, 4, and 5.

In your instance I would probably deal with the serialization in crystal
to generate the unique ID as that wouldn't be too difficult to factor
that in at that point using a counting formula.

The last thing they do on the summary tab at the header level is type in
the total number of pallets. The bill of lading uses this for the total
number of packages in the shipment. You might be able to either
customize that in the form itself or the crystal report for the bill of
lading itself if that is a requirement for you as well. Time
constraints prevented me from getting any fancier at the time. This may
sound time consuming, but once they get the process down they are able
to whip through it surprisingly fast as we have the tabs they go through
lined up sequentially, and there is no clicking back and forth, it's
fairly smooth in practice.

We generate approximately 150 packing slips per week representing almost
400 releases. Our staffing is 3 individuals, 2 of which pack, wrap load
and do most of the data entry vantage for themselves. One of the two
aforementioned also subsequently delivers via truck as well. We also
make use of auto printing for the packing slips and shipping labels
which is an enormous time saver.

You could use the Master Pack operations within Vantage to accomplish this - though (as usual) it's a bit long-winded.

Basically, you create a Customer Shipment Entry for each pallet, then create a Master Pack and add on all the individual Packing Slips into one "master" shipment. You have the ability to print off a master packing list as well.

For invoicing, you still have to get each Customer Shipment, but you could use the Combine Packing Slips option to merge them into one invoice.
