SLOW 4to5 Conversion Idxbuild

Regarding the pagefile.sys; don't copy it, use performance options in
Control Panel (system/advanced/performance options/Change/Virtual Memory).
After reading my repy, I am afraid someone could have taken it the wrong
way.....

Norm,

I used 2 workstations with w2k and a lesser config than your setup and it
was pretty fast. A few things to keep in mind:
-I don't know the size of your db, mine was only 550 Mb.
-New Server: make sure the manufacturer isn't playing tricks on you: case in
point: All recent Dell stuff seems to come with a preinstalled mfg
partition loaded with their proprietary stuff rip this out at your
discretion. After deleting those my hardware really flies.
-Then I found significant improvements after relocating the pagefile.sys
from the drive on which Vantage will be running (maybe you have one of those
laying around).
-Are all your groups posted?

Just a few things to check to get you started.

I know slow conversions have been a topic for a while, but I think my
problem doesn't seem to fit it with the other discussions.

I'm trying to bring up a new server and convert from 4.0 to 5.0 at the same
time, but seem to be having problems with slow indexing and other
conversions.

Server config: P4, 1 ghz processor, 1 gig RAM, OS: W2K Server. No virus
protection installed yet. No other software installed. 2 fast scuzi drives
(mirroring of both C (OS) and D (Vantage)

For a variety of reasons (1 being the server crashed 1 time) I have restored
the 4.0 data base from a backup several times, and performed all the
associated operations necessary to upgrade. Reindexing the restored
database takes several hours (left it run overnight - figured it took about
6+ hours based on time to complete group 6, phase 2). Epicor tech support
says it is my server setup, and idxbuild should take < 30 minutes.

If anybody can help with my server setup, I would appreciate either a
response here/offline/phone call (please call before 3:30 P.M. CST).

Thanks in advance for any help!

Tune your new 4.0 database before you reindex by bumping up the -b
parameter. Epicor has a document on this. When I went to 4.0 I documented a
big increase in speed here.
