Uninstalling Old Progress Version

Just a thought.
I had trouble uninstalling an old version before. (Sorry I don't remember
the error.)
I had to stop the new databases, then the old software uninstalled.

Subject: [Vantage] Uninstalling Old Progress Version

Last October I upgraded from 4.0 to 5.2. I skipped through all the
intermediate versions of Progress in sequence, each in its own directory
(epicor, epic50,epic51, etc..).

I am now trying to clean house and get rid of the old folders and the
progress sub-folders. Trying to delete Progress folder results in warning
that registered programs may be affected. But trying to uninstall Progress
9.0b results in the following errors (in sequence):
-Unable to access - error 44537
-Error initializing globals
-Specified resource type can not be found in image file
Then the uninstall asks if I want to uninstall anyway. I'm a little fearful
of what it will actually do especially with 9.1d running.

I need some advice or opinions.

Can I go ahead and blow the folder away and live with debris in the
registry without affecting the running 9.1d? What harm would the invalid
registry entries cause?

Or should I try the uninstall despite the errors and live live with whatever
it can manage to do?

Thanks,
-Todd Caughey

You may be getting this error because you don't have your Vantage drive
mapped to the original location. We just upgraded from 5.0 to 5.2 and to
remove the 9.1A client we had to have the logical vantage drive mapped to
the "epic50" folder or we would get similar errors.

Thanks but this is Progress on the server itself. So no mapping is involved. Being on the server it's taking up over 200MB of space I would like to recover.

On the old folder you might just try turning off the share and deleting all
permissions, even administrator permissions.
Reboot and see if everything works ok. If not just open up the share and/or

This is a good idea when adding a second or third progress installation.
Progress likes to snoop around when it installs.

Also if you did not copy a database properly the new install could be
pointing to the old database in an old folder.

Another thing to do is search the registry for entry's left behind.
Search on epicor, epic50, epic51 or if you have been around a while as in
prior to version 4 search on \dcd and \dwc also. Remember the good old DCD

We didn't get any errors like this when un-installing the software on the
server. We did have to clean up some old registry entries after
un-installing. I would try and contact Progress tech support on this. If
you have a current Vantage support agreement they can get you in contact
with them.

I jumped from Vantage 4.0 to 6.0 last weekend. You can verify were you
database is looking by Opening P.1D -> Proenv
change to your \db. At the prompt> prostrct list vantage - will show you
where all of your files are pointed. I uninstalled 9.1A and 9.1C. My only
casualty was the 6.0 client on the server. It's giving me the control -
frame errors. I have not fixed it yet.
