Progress won't uninstall

Yanked the main key out of the registry and reinstalled and it worked.
Thanks to everybody for the quick response. OK, back to the rest of the W2K
upgrade. Fixing little hinks this am. On to the servers. Thanks again.

Rather than delete all registry entries, you can make a list of the progress
dll's and ocx's you find while searching through the registry. There will
be entries for the mapped drive letter, as well as the full UNC pathname

Then, you copy the vantage unregocx.bat file, and add regsvr32 entries to
the file. When you run the bat file, this will allow windows to unregister
the files in a clean manner, and will also provide you with an uninstall bat
file for future occurances of having to manually uninstall.

However, I am not certain if this method deletes all the progress keys in
the software tree. Only after having run the copied and modified
unregocx.BAT file would I then carefully delete all other keys containing
progress.

What Epicor walked me through on a Win2K machine was... Search for 9.1A or
9.1C in the registry (depending on your progress version) and delete the
DATA (not the key), or if it's a folder, delete the whole folder. This
worked for me and I was then able to install progress on that machine.

Has someone encountered this? We upgraded our workstations to W2K last
night (upgraded, not fresh install). Vantage wasn't working on one of the
workstations. It wouldn't allow me to uninstall Progress so that I could
reinstall it. When I try to reinstall Progress, it keeps telling me
previous version of Progress needs to be uninstalled. When I try to
uninstall it, it can't find the necessary files to uninstall it. I don't
know if I need to pull anything out of the registry or not. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Could you copy all the Progress related files over from a workstation that
works and hopefully get the "missing" one(s) required to un-install it?
Usually there is an uninstall.inf file for installed programs. Otherwise I
would agree the registry has info that needs to be removed. A tool like
Cleansweep might make that easier than doing it manually and then maybe the
install would work.

I've had this happen before. Searching through the registry for "progress"
and deleting all entries it finds relating to the Progress client has worked
for me in the past. Just watch you don't delete "progress bar" or other
non-Progress client entries.

Gary

You may be faced with doing a registry edit. Go in and manually delete any
progress directory, then open regedit, go to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE and delete
the progress folder. Obviously make a back up of your registry before doing
this, Just in case.

Gary,

I had a similar situation. I ended up calling Epicor on it. But, I found a document on the eportal sight that tells exactly how to do it.

Summary: Uninstalling Progress by Removing Registry Entries Manually
AnswerBook: Vantage ChangeRequests

Kbase Id:
18709

Title:
Uninstalling Progress by Removing Registry Entries Manually

SUMMARY:

Sometimes a 32-bit installation of Progress might be useless or a
removal of the previous installation version has to be done. This
solution details the Windows NT Registry entries that should be
deleted by hand before a new installation can be done.

SOLUTION:

To completely clean the Registry of references to Progress, delete
each and every subtree, its keys, the hive and values described here.
To find the CLSID entries, either use pure luck or search for the
installation directory name FX: (X relates to a SID created at install
time). Progress is installed in C:\DLC\ therefore search for DLC using
F3 in Regedit.

NOTE: Use the Regedit at your own risk because carelessness can render
the operating system useless. Always have a valid and up to date
backup (use REGBACK from the NT Resource kit)

Program Registry entries:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PSC
HKEY_USER\{X}\Software\PSC
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PSC
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\Proservice(8x/9X)

Version 9.x entries:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Enum\Root\LEGACY_ADMINSERV
ICE9.XHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\AdminService9.X

Delete these sub-trees to remove all entries related to the Progress
executables. Most of the time this is enough cleaning and a new
installation can be started:

File extension association:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.CFG
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.Database
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.I
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.P
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.PF
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.PRL
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.R
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.UDF
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.W

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{X}\(Progress Version) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{X}\(Progress
Version)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFileCFG-(Progress Version) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFileI-(Progress Version) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFileP-(Progress Version) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFilePF-(Progress Version) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFilePRL-(Progress Version) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFileUDF-(Progress Version) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFileW-(Progress Version)And
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ProgressFileCFG-
(Progress Version)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ProgressFileI-
(Progress Version) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ProgressFileP-
(Progress Version) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ProgressFilePF-
(Progress Version) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ProgressFilePRL-
(Progress Version)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ProgressFileUDF-
(Progress Version)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ProgressFileW-
(Progress Version)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFileDB-(Progress Version) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFileR-(Progress Version)And
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ProgressFileDB-
(Progress Version) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ProgressFileR-
(Progress Version)
Delete these sub-trees plus the CLSID number to remove all entries
related to the File extension association:

Program Entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_USER\Software\PSC HKEY_USER\{X}\Software\PSC
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PSC

Delete these sub-trees to remove all entries related to the Progress
executables:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CurrentVersion\App Paths
\PROWIN32.EXE
\SHOWCFG.EXE

Just delete this:

Uninstall information:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CurrentVersion\Uninstall
\ProgressSoftware_1

Delete this sub-tree to remove all entries related to the Progress
uninstall (which properly failed since you are doing this):

Performance counters and Eventlog entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\Properf8
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\EventLog
\Applications\ProControl
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\EventLog
\Applications\Progress
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\EventLog
\Applications\ProService
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\EventLog
\Applications\DATABASENAME

V9:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\EventLog
\Applications\AdmService

Delete these sub-trees to remove all entries related to the Progress
performance counters.

Reboot and reinstall.
