V6.1 - Material data collection & custom jobs

We are a similar mixed mode manufacturer and settled on the solution below for our "On-the-fly" changes.

In the Company Configuration, Module Configuration, Job Module screen you can un-check the "Allow Changes To Engineered Jobs" option. This will eliminate you being able to use the change log function for the job module but will then allow you to change an engineered job at will. This has some obvious flaws as well, but will solve the hoop jumping you described.

As to scanning, we remain in the manual entry mode.

Hope this helps,

Subject: [Vantage] v6.1 - Material data collection & custom jobs

We are a multi-mode manufacturer and one division works predominately
with custom products. Sometimes there is as much art as science to
what they are doing and our highly skilled assemblers are often adding
material to the product as needed. The production managers are
attempting to add all these extra materials to the job, but they
ususally wait until the job is complete (weeks or months) so they
don't have to constantly unengineer, update and reengineer the jobs.
There are obvious flaws to the process.

Question 1: Is there a way in Vantage to add parts to a job "on the
fly?" The closest we can do have a dummy part on the job, select the
job and Dummy Part on the single issue screen and change the inventory
part number at the top of the screen to the correct part being
issued. The inventory of the correct part is adjusted correctly and
its costs follow, but the job thinks that we have issued 1 Dummy
Part. If 1 each of 3 different correct parts are added this way, the
job will show 3 Dummy Parts. It is one option, but we would like
visibility to see what was actually added. Any other ideas?

Question 2: What material data collection equipment / software are
being used? Bar code equipment for laber entry would be nice, but
material issues are a bigger problem. Is anyone scanning and issuing
material to jobs? Doing this just for material listed on the job
traveler/pick list would be a big help.

What about going back to that specific job in the job entry screen and
uncheck the engineered and released check boxes and simply add the part to
the BOM. There are time that we have to change something with the job
(increase production quantities, changing dates, etc.) and we just make the
changes there and redistribute the new job traveler as we see fit.
