Vantage 5.0 install on Win2K Server

Thanks everyone for responding to my message.
I worked with David Weiseth at Epicor Tech Support on this issue yesterday. He told me that Win2K wouldn't allow the install to
overwrite ProCtrl.cpl file located in \WINNT\SYSTEM32 folder. The real problem was to manually delete registry entries for PROGRESS
9.1A since it wouldn't uninstall by itself. I was suggested to start Win2K in safe mode rename ProCtrl.cpl to ProCtrl.old and
attempt installing again.
I probably will setup Pro Control for use by our less technical personnel who start their work at 6:00 AM and if we had a power
outage at night then they had to start Pro Control without my help, Progress Explorer looks little bit more complex for them at this
point.
Todd, I have downloaded your "Vantage 4.0 to 5.20 Experience" message, printed and attached it to Vantage Installation Instructions.
It is very helpful, especially the chronological part of it.

I tried to install Vantage 5.0 on our Win2K Server. During installation of Progress the installation was interrupted by an error:
"Cannot copy file d:\Epic50\Progress\bin\ProCtrl.cpl, error 32".
Did anyone else get this error? If so, how did you make it work?

Mike,
I've never seen that error in my installs of progress 5.0 - 5.2. I would
try installing again from scratch. You may need to uninstall progress first
in order to reinstall. Another option: it appears that the file is for
ProControl. If you were not planning to use ProControl (5.0 introduces the
Progress Explorer Tool), you could omit Procontrol during setup and there-by
avoid needing to copy that file.

Not sure if it is related but during our install of Progress 9.1A for 5.0
(but on a NT 4.0 system) the install would hang part way through. No error,
just hung. The solution (thanks to Ted Kitch) was to install MDAC 2.5 from
Microsoft. Search archived messages on Oct. 4th at about 10pm CDT for
details.

Any *.CPL file is a control panel "applet", and that's the one for Pro
Control. The Progress installation should copy it into
\WINNT\SYSTEM32. I'd bet there's already one from your prior installation
that it's having trouble overwriting. Maybe a permissions problem, or
perhaps control panel was open and had it locked?

You could try doing a manual COPY d:\Epic50\Progress\bin\ProCtrl.cpl
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 Or for that matter, if you have Progress Explorer
functional, you don't really even need Pro Control.
