Vantage 8.03.400 Operating System

You'll have to ask one of the ladies. Men tend not to view our relationships
very often...

(Is it Friday yet?)
I would NOT recommend NASolutions (aka Xtore). Although we have used one for over five years I have never been very comfortable with it and always in fear it will die suddenly. The Linux based OS does not play well with Windows and the granularity of security or permissions is really bad. You can create a shared folder and assign permissions (R or RW only) but this applies to all subfolders - no way to restrict or permit sub-folder shares. I later found out too that the outfit we bought it from received it "naked" and loaded the drives...a bunch of cheap trouble prone Western Digital drives.

At the moment I am migrating all the Xtore folders to our StoreVault iSCSI SAN which also does CIFS ethernet NAS so I can have NAS and SAN on the same device and share the dual parity hot swap RAID aspects. But the StoreVault is definitely out of the price range. The Xtore will become a respository for things on CDs or web....such as installation disks and patches...anything I can afford to lose.

I have a nice little Iomega NAS 200d that was a little complicated to set up (expects DHCP so setting static IP was a pain) but has worked OK. I don't recall if it is Gigabit for sure but I think it is. This would probably be in the price range you are looking for. Not rack mount though. Looks like a toaster.

Currently looking for a Network Attached Storage device. Was wondering if
anyone had any suggestion for either ones to look at or ones to stay always
from.

Requirements

Low Price.. Maybe around $1,500

Gigabit network connection

At least 180GB

Reliable, 20ish user accessing files on and off

RAID configuration would be nice...

Rack mounted would also be nice.

Thanks,

We also use Server 2003 Std. R2 64bit. This version does not have the 4 GB memory limit (we have 16GB). Also, if you ever want to go SQL 2005, it will only run on 64bit.

We use Windows 2003 Stn R2 64bit. Epicor recommended 64-bit to us.
So far it is working fine.

stinks, because the cost for Enterprise is much more than standard
edition. Also, determined that you have to use the 32bit version
because Epicor can't handle the 64bit OS.

Do you mean Exchange 2007 or possibly SQL 2008?

I'm running SQL 2005 on 32bit.
