Vantage 8, SQL Server backend, clients accessing through Citrix

Have you considered splitting the Application Server (vantage
appserver) and Database Server loads?

This may have nothing to do with the slow Citrix response (is it lag?
do result sets take a long to display, say in Part Tracker, or is it
reporting that is slow, dashboards?)

But it might, it may just be that your Citrix users are heavier-
hitting on the systems...

Is anyone else using this configuration, and if so, what kind of muscle does your Citrix have? Processors, number and speed, disk setup, RAM and so on.
Any non-standard configurations you made?

I ask because we're having some performance issues and I'm eliminating possibilities.

Thank you!

I sure hope you aren't running that all on the same server. Your
users will want to shoot you if you run your Citrix load on your
server, I don't care if it's an 8-way server with 16GB of RAM. You
would be better off taking an old workstation and putting the Citrix
load on that.

So what's your configuration? All three on separate servers here, but
all in the same bladecenter, so its a nice fast fabric. Our vantage
server is currently a single CPU (HT though) but we only run about
15-18 active plus MES.

Hi Lee,
Here's our Citrix setup:

Five Dell Poweredge 1950's

All are dual Intel Xeon 5140 @ 233mghz

4GB of DDR2 fully buffered

2 teamed gigabit Ethernet cards

Mirrored SAS drives @ 146 GB

Working with published apps and on the vantage app I have
it taking a higher cpu priority than other published apps.

The only other published apps are office 2007

Note that the users who connect directly to Vantage, have the client installed locally, don't experience the slowdowns.
They're slower than I think they should be, but to be honest, I think v. 8 runs painfully slow compared to 6, 5 and 3 before it, but I've come to accept that.

PS. They want to shoot us anyhow, and this being Texas, I don't think it's a euphemism :)
Thanks

Dual intel xeon processors e5335 @2 ghz

8gb ddr2 fully buffered ram

2 teamed 1 gb Ethernet cards

2 300gb sas 15.5 rpm HD raid 1

4 300gb sas 15.5 HD raid 2 on separate channel The
harddrives are on one raid card with two channels The two hardrives are on one

Tony,
I think what Lee H was referring to is -- how is your Vantage & SQL
software configured across the servers. i.e. is your SQL db and Vantage
software on the same server or do you have SQL installed on it's own
server?
