Installing locally can only cause you heartache unless you need the air
miles after a patch or upgrade. Terminal services only passes characters
once you have the Super Cache setup on your Citrix server. I have a building
3 miles away on a Frame and their results are fine once connected. The
connection time is SLOW.

Patrick/Mark,

Thanks for the responses;

I do run Citrix, and I planned to use that as a back-up.
Re: Vantage's performance issues: I couldn't find anything on it, I guess I
will have to be creative. I wonder if it helps to install Vantage locally,
and point back to the remote server for the DB. Hopefully I can make it
workable. I'll be sure to post my notes afterwards....

Vantage has some performance issues when running over a VPN. You should
probably so some testing b/4 making any promises.

I'm doing the same, Outlook to Exchange works great, Vantage will need some
type of thin client help, we are using PCANYWHERE as a thin client across a
VPN, It works but that's about all I can say for it. You may also find
printing across the VPN directly to a HP type network able printer, one with
an IP address works better than using the thin client to bring the printer
data across. Also have found out that XP Client to XP Client "Remote Desktop
Connection" works pretty good but of course like PCANYWHERE you need a PC on
both ends. I know I need to read up on Terminal Services.

Patrick/Mark,

Thanks for the responses;

Paul:

Vantage has some performance issues when running over a VPN. You should
probably so some testing b/4 making any promises.

I am creating an IPSEC VPN Tunnel from VA to a 3 desk office in CO. The
main reasons are that people need to be able to browse directories, and
I
forwarding mail. As an added bonus I could give the local office in CO
the
ability to look up parts in the parts master in Vantage.

I am running a partial T-1 in VA (256K), which I will bump up to 512K.
The
CO office will more than likely be on a Comcast-at-Home type of solution
@
54Mbps.

Just wondering if anybody has a similar config working, and can tell me
a
bit about the performance.

TIA,

Paul

Paul:

We run citrix here and creating a published app is relatively easy. I
have also tested using W2K Server running only TS and it also fairly
easy to set up a published app

Good point Cliff... I just want to make it all look seamless to the
remote
users. Maybe I can make Vantage a published app? I wonder if someone
has
done that before?

Installing locally can only cause you heartache unless you need the air
miles after a patch or upgrade. Terminal services only passes characters
once you have the Super Cache setup on your Citrix server. I have a
building
3 miles away on a Frame and their results are fine once connected. The
connection time is SLOW.
