Vantage 8.03 over a VPN

If you VPN in and then use TS, I setup the users printer as a network
printer. This avoids all the driver issues, printer names much match,
etc. on the TS and is much more reliable than the printer redirect.

Mitchell,

Prior to installing ThinPrint, were your users on TS getting randomly
kicked out of Vantage when they tried to print?

Thanks,
Jim

Does anyone having tips in setting it up to work over a VPN? Is it to
slow? So is this why everyone uses some type of remote desktop to get
access??

I have configure the client, and have been messing with my router port
fowarding to see if I can get it working. I haven't had much luck.
I'm receiving an error message:

Any Idea's?

Some of our users are running the Vantage client over VPN and except for
printing, the performance is pretty much the same. Their internet
connection is a 3Mb DSL, BTW.

I would say a terminal server is okay if you have several users who run
Vantage once in a while, but we found that for full-time Vantage users,
they need the performance of a dedicated system.

Getting kicked out of Vantage while printing is pretty much a fact of life
in my experience (at least on 5.1 - 6.1). You can mitigate it but we have
not been able to completely eliminate it. Our TS users are remote salesmen
so they don't print as much as the users in the office. They haven't
complained about any problems.

I hadn't considered using ThinPrint in the office. I will have to see if it
helps any.

We upgraded some printers and PC's recently so I probably need to check
which versions of .dlls are being used. Making sure the server and the PC
had identical .dll's seemed to help eliminate most of the crashing during
printing. Invoice printing is notorious for crashing at our office.

Mitchell Kirby
