Vantage Server Buffers

We have 8GB of memory with 4 dual core processors and our machine is
very under utilized with 30 users. We have several other databases on
the SQL server and want to split Vantage away from the same server as
SQL but were told not to. I agree with the views, table locks become a
problem on big queries. Would you not need SQL Enterprise to take
advantage of 8GB of memory? From what I have read and observed, SQL
Standard will only use 2GB of memory.

Chris,

How did you configure your 8GB memory.

We're running 2.8GHz Dual Core / Dual processor with 8GB RAM on Dual
Ranked DIMMS and we continue to peg out our pages per second.
Although it's intermittent, it just about brings our system to its
knees.

Additionally, have you ever heard of using SQL VIEWS instead of
TABLES to create Crystal reports using ODBC, so that records are not
locked? Epicor seems to believe that is part of our problem with our
slowness as well.

Any direction is sincerely appreciated.

Would like to get an idea how others are allocating memory buffers to Vantage, especially version 8.x SQL. I think we need to go to 8gb memory for go-live. Right now, we have:

Memory: 4gb
SQL: 1.2gb (fixed)
OpenEdge: 40,000 (* block-size of 4096 = 164mb)
Office Licenses: 26
Data Collection: 6

Chris,
We went to 8gb memory.
We also upgraded to a Dell quad 4 server.
We have 70 licenses.
30 data collections.
All in sql....we seem to be fine now.

I do not know about the open edge, but I can research if you desire.

Please advise.
