I've had this happen twice now in the last 10 days, which is very
unusual.
Vantage 8.03.408B MSSQL 2005
User Symptoms: clients get hanging transactions, or 4GL STOP errors.
Server Symptoms:
- PET shows a bunch of busy servers.
- MSSQL shows a bunch of blocked or blocking processes in the
Activity Monitor. Most of the processes are blocked by a single
process, but not all. If I kill that process, another one becomes the
blocker and so on. All of them have as their details "FETCH API CURSOR
xxxxx". It doesn't appear as if there's a locked table.
- Nothing interesting in the server.log file until I kill one
of the MSSQL processes. Then I get MSSQL communication failure errors.
- Restarting the three appservers clears the problem. I
restart everything but the main appserver nightly anyways.
The fact that this has happened twice in two weeks is troubling.
Nothing has changed otherwise in the environment that I'm aware of.
