Windows 2007 Blank Title 130356

We are converting everyone here slowly but surely to windows 8 (mainly to play really really nice with AD 2012). We install “Start8” to get rid of the metro app launch screen and get the familiar start button back. Other than that 8 is really no different than 7.  We replaced Windows 7 with Windows 8 on some of our “older” generation employees and they have not said boo yet… So we got that going for us.

Yep.  Like XP, I can see me and my users being on Win7 for a decade.. just like XP.  Win8 is horrid on a desktop.  8.1 is a bit better… but Win7 is going to be in the workplace for years to come.

Me too.  Windows 8.1 with something like Classic Shell works fine.  I have a few users on it.  Its great for laptops with QHD displays because it can scale up screen items much better than 7.  But I wouldn't go out of my way upgrading 7 to 8.  Oh, and if you do upgrade Windows 7 to 8, you have to reinstall all your programs.  Thank you Microsoft.

That’s correct – I got a little confused –  and added the 200 in front.

Thanks for you answer.

Just to clear things up for people, since I think there is some confusion.

There is no such thing as Windows 2007 or 2008 for Workstations.

There is Windows XP(mostly unsupported now), Windows Vista, Windows 7 and now Windows 8 for Workstations.

There is Windows 2003, Windows 2008 and Windows 2012 for Servers

I believe the original question was actually asking about Windows 8 versus Windows 7.

To answer that, yes, you can run the client on a Windows 8 PC, however, I personally would not do it because it will probably annoy most end users who don’t have a touch screen to use windows 8, and I would keep Windows 7 on any and all machine for ease of consistency in the whole environment. I think general best practice is to keep the OS version consistent across the entire company to reduce conflicts and what you need to support.

On a personal level, I pretty much only use every other operating system that MS puts out, they tend to have a track record of alternating one good then one bad.

We run the 8.03 client on Windows 2008, so I assume you can run 9.05 on it also.  I wouldn't be in a hurry to upgrade your clients to 2008.  So far I haven't seen much difference between Windows 2007 and 2008 in a work environment.  Now Windows 2012 server is a worthwhile upgrade, but not for the Epicor Server.

We went live and a lot of computers are 2007.  Now, windows 2008 is out - can we run a client on 2008?  We are on Epicor 9.05.605.

That’s correct – I got a little confused –  and added the 200 in front.

Thanks for you answer.

Yep. Like XP, I can see me and my users being on Win7 for a decade.. just like XP. Win8 is horrid on a desktop. 8.1 is a bit better… but Win7 is going to be in the workplace for years to come.Â

I need to ask this - just because I don't know -

We went live and a lot of computers are 2007.  Now, windows 2008 is out - can we run a client on 2008?  We are on Epicor 9.05.605.
