Windows 7 & Vantage 408B

Were you able to resolve it? Please post how.
I am having the same problem. Mfgsys.exe refuses to start.

Epicor 9 Takes about 2 minutes to install and then 3-4 minutes for initializing when first run. After that it is all about ODBC, etc. As a side issue is there a BW issue with your network. Server processors getting overburdened during work hours? OK, I’ll wait to see the message. Please describe how the message was different previously, if it was at all

Are you the person who routinely performs installs for the 8.03 product? I would verify order of installation for this product. In 904, the WSE 3.0 has to be installed first. You may have to go into the Registry and remove any values for Epicor. What is the target on a PC where Epicor is working?

I've ran 8.03.305 and .4xx on Windows 7 64 Bit and I'm currently running
9.04.506A on Win7 64 Bit with no problems. So I know it's possible.

Are you sure you have .Net 1.1 installed? Try lower the UAC to see if
that helps.

Blake,

I have found that after an install you need to, the first time only, right click on the icon and choose Run as administrator. This somehow allows the unpacking and installation of the client package to proceed. Then you should be good to go, until the next update.......

Good luck.

Which version of Windows are you using? Also, which versions of .NET are
already installed. In addition, which version of Epicor are you
installing.? It'll be easier to understand the whole situation before I
make a recommendation.

Didn’t have problems running 9.04.506a on Windows 7 64-bit. As a developer…the problems involved our Crystal Reports version not working great in 64-bit. So, using the BAQ Report Designer was problematic. Another 64-bit issue, revolves around where the ODBC driver is stored on the system. Most systems look in the usual location for the driver, password and info. Sometimes I had browse to the correct location, re-enter the values manually prior to running a report, etc. Once loaded in Epicor, I believe reports worked a little better.

So many in-house programs wouldn’t run well in 7 64-bit…that I went back to 32-bit despite having 6GB of RAM.

This is what I have for Epicor 904

"C:\Program Files\Epicor Software\Epicor904\Client\MfgSys.exe"

What I’m thinking is that you should verify the target path on a working PC, then translate into how Windows 7 stores its programs. Is the below path where the client is actually located? Can you double-click the .exe from that location and get it to run? If not, I would uninstall and re-install…keeping in mind changes they may need to be implemented for the Windows 7 file location environment.

Sounds unclear. Are you saying that you can navigate to that path but the exe won’t run. Or are you saying that you can’t get to that path and/or don’s see the exe?

There’s an error message? Can you take a screen shot please. Not sure this is a Windows 7 issue as opposed to an installation issue. Are you the person who routinely performs installs for the 8.03 product? I would verify order of installation for this product. In 904, the WSE 3.0 has to be installed first. You may have to go into the Registry and remove any values for Epicor. What is the target on a PC where Epicor is working?

Another question is whether this is an upgrade on the Windows 7 PC from a previous Vantage install or whether it is the first install of an Epicor product on the machine.

First install on this PC for Epicor. I am the only one that installs Vantage here and have done many, many times before. I'll take a screen shot and email it to you once I'm done updating Vantage. It will take a while… 1-2 hours.

Why 1-2 hours??? Slightly different install process for sure. But the WSE takes less than a minute to install.

I installed Vantage client but since the auto update failed to run I'm just copying the client folder down from the server… that process takes 1-2 hours to complete.

The message was only different in the fact that instead of saying Mfgsys.exe was stopping that AutoUpdate.exe was stopping. I have never seen this error when installing Vantage on XP machines.

Why 1-2 hours??? Slightly different install process for sure. But the WSE takes less than a minute to install.

Earlier, I was answering someone about .NET versions. On my Windows 7 (and everyone using Epicor 9 in XP), I have .NET 3.0 plus service packs for that and the server client update as well. Which were available from Microsoft Updates. What does your Epicor version recommend and which .NET versions are installed.

Web Services of some kind. It is a required part of our install, believe it is built-in, though we are not using it.

Why 1-2 hours??? Slightly different install process for sure. But the WSE takes less than a minute to install.

First install on this PC for Epicor. I am the only one that installs Vantage here and have done many, many times before. I'll take a screen shot and email it to you once I'm done updating Vantage. It will take a while… 1-2 hours.

Sounds unclear. Are you saying that you can navigate to that path but the exe won’t run. Or are you saying that you can’t get to that path and/or don’s see the exe?

This is what I have for Epicor 904

"C:\Program Files\Epicor Software\Epicor904\Client\MfgSys.exe"

What I’m thinking is that you should verify the target path on a working PC, then translate into how Windows 7 stores its programs. Is the below path where the client is actually located? Can you double-click the .exe from that location and get it to run? If not, I would uninstall and re-install…keeping in mind changes they may need to be implemented for the Windows 7 file location environment.
