XL Connect Blank Title 86207

Hello All,

we just got XL connect installed and notice that when we open spreadsheet to work on Epicor (10.1), no other worksheet can't be open after.

Just wondering if anyone has same issue and found any solutions ??   Thank you in advance.

Yeah, I saw that. What makes this confusing is that in Epicor 9, Vantage
users convert to Epicor 9 Enterprise licenses.

What are the email capabilities of Vantage? We would like to do a mass email to our customer contacts. Is that possible? How would we go about doing that? Can we attach a Word or .pdf document as well?

Any input you can share would be appreciated.

We export Customer and Contact lists to Excel and then use Word's mail merge feature to do mass emails. We also have automated order and shipping emails, but these are text only. If you have APM, you can get fancier with the mailings including attaching PDF files.

Without APM, out of the box emailing capabilities of Vantage are limited. But with a little work, you could do just about anything you want with emails and customer contacts. There's always ODBC to extract the contact information and to pull it into whatever program you like.

I would probably do it using vb.net code as a customization from any given form. You can attach files using it as well. If you want to do a mass e-mail to multiple customers then you probably need to write your own SQL statement (again, can be done as a VB customization) to mine the data.

Thanks,
Kunal

We use ODBC to extract email addresses and then import them into Constant Contact for our mailings. A couple things to keep in mind: email addresses are in the Customer table, CustCnt table, and ShipTo table. There is also a No-Contact check box. If you are disciplined with the use of the check boxes (we are not), you can reduce the number of bounce backs, and angry messages from people accusing you of SPAM.

We use Constant Contact because their bounce management and opt-out feature is flawless.

Last point – the first time we did a mass email to 2,500 addresses, we got put on a black list for spammers.

I would concur. Constant Contact is a great service (there are others as well), and if you're doing e-mail marketing, you really, really want to be able to easily handle the opt-out piece, and with Constant Contact you get immediate feedback on link clickthroughs, who is viewing your messages, etc.

Randy, how do you handle the closed loop on no-contact requests? Do you just deal with them manually?

I hate to admit that we don’t close the loop. Our sales people say they don’t have the time to maintain all of that. My process is as follows:

1) Via ODBC I make a list of all Vantage email addresses (along with name, company, etc)

2) Export from Constant Contact online the most recent email list

3) Combine the two lists above into one table – email is unique

4) Remove any that have bounced or opted out
My list now has any new names that have been added since last mailing.

5) Upload new list to CC.

The nice thing about CC is that even if we slip up, and put in an address that had previously opted out, CC will catch that and will not resend.

Is anyone out there using XL Connect for Epicor 9.05? We have just had the application installed and we have some questions regarding the full capabilities of the application and what we are hoping it can do for us. If anyone is currently using this software and is willing to spend a few minutes discussing your experiences please let me know.

We are using vista 8.03.409c

We are considering purchasing xl connect, just the base version.

There is no demo available so I'm wondering if anyone can give some feedback good and bad? Is it easy enough for a completly inexperienced report writer? Is anyone using it for ap and/or ar? Does it work as well as the sales repbis claiming?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I should also ask if anyone is using the broadcast piece

ttfitman,

Have you purchased it? We are looking to to purchase it as well but want to make sure i know what i am getting in Vantage 8.03.409C.

Jose

Did anyone install XL connect by themselves or had Epicor do it? Do we need training on it? We are purchasing but want to make sure that we need the "extra stuff" that epicor suggests?

thansk!

Jose

Jose,

Yes, we've installed it ourselves a number of times. At first, we had Epicor support help us and it was NOT easy. I'm not sure about what 'extra stuff' you are referring to, but I have a nice word document another trick we can discuss via email if you wish. The word doc will take a little explanation, but it should make your installs go nicely...

Feel free - mkgross69@...

Mike

ttfitman,

We're using it with 905.606 and it's working quite well for us, even with a highly complicated GL structure. What can I tell you about it??  It's an Excel Add-on that creates it's own Ribbon, it uses SSRS via SQL to run queries and return data (so the setup and authentication might bite you a little bit depending on your setup) to an excel spreadsheet. Each cell has to have it's own formula, but they can be parameterized to use a common set of values so editing or changing ranges can be done in a single section/set of cells at the top of the spreadsheet and all the magic happen accordingly. It's aware of the entire structure (multi-company/plant/etc) and works nicely as far as we have experienced so far.

And no, no XL Broadcast, but I can tell you about it briefly. It's an Excel add-on like XL Connect, that can only be installed once, and Excel must remain open for it to function, so I was instructed to install Excel and XL Broadcast on my Server (hmmm...). You edit 'books', distribution lists, and associated schedules on that instance and it just wakes up and does what it needs to when it's supposed to. If you want it to email instead of print or save, you need to have an email client logged in as well on that 'server'. Pretty sure that's how it works.

Mike

Lauren:
Since your post was from 2012 I assume you are now an expert. I am in the same place you were then. Can we talk, especially about creating data that is not strictly GL centric?
Thanks,

Bruce Caple

We are thinking about getting XL Connect.  Wondering what is the maintenance and support.  Also do you recommend XL developer.  We are on Epicor 9.05.702A.
