XML Files for Crystal Reports

Matt,

In Report Data Maintenance for a copy of the Job Traveler, I added
JobProd and OrderHed using the Report Table tab.

With JobProd selected I go to the relationship tab and created a new
JobProd relation;

The parent table is Jobhead with JobNum as the key and the child table
is JobProd.

I added the Relationship fields of Company and JobNum (In this case the
parent and child fields had the same name.

Hope this helps?

How did you define that key?

In version 8.03.403C, I was able to add a table to the report definition
and define the key to access the table.

This is without the SDK.

Data can be added to an existing report very easily. However, you will
be limited to the data from the existing tables in the definition.
The addition of other tables to the definition will require the
purchase of the SDK module; well, at least getting data from the

be blank when it hits Crystal.

The other option besides ODBC is to use BAQ reports. Most of the time
this functions very well and I use it for the majority of my reports.
There are occasions that I have to generate an ODBC report or use
ODBC for a subreport to a XML report. I actually prefer the latter
because of the ability to keep the report prompts consistent with
normal Vantage reports. This can be done completely transparent to the
user if everything is setup correctly.

2 points : We use ODBC on our Crystal Reports for version 8.03.305K,
& although it IS problematic at times, it works. We can add whatever
fields we need to, as long as they 'make sense' in the context of the
report itself and its underlying queries.

Second, I am beginning to prefer working on the 'Report Data
Definitions' and adding additional fields to THOSE, rather than deal
with all the 'Microsoft problems' that come along with ODBC. It's
simply cleaner, DOES involve a bit more work up front, BUT...the
reports will run faster as a bonus.

We added a table to the XML data definition for a purchase order, but
it turned out that when there was no link to the added table
(it was no standard vendorpart) we got an empty Crystal reports report.

We had to define two purchase orders: one for standard parts, one for
non-standard parts.

Its been a while but you can add data to the pick list. We added the
unit of measure because it was missing. It goes something like this.

Edit the data definition in vantage for the picklist and save it with a
new name. Edit the crystal report so it uses the new data definition.
I can't remember the details but this should point you in the right
direction.

might also involve a seperate export but over the past 7 years I can't
count the number of times I've told users I can't add a given field
and what I have been told sounds like I will be able to do this. I'm
not sure if it would require a BAQ if it involves other tables to
create a file to suppliment the canned XML but it is supposed to be a
feature in 8.x to customize what is exported by the standard file
generators.

Dale,

How did you define that key?

In version 8.03.403C, I was able to add a table to the report definition
and define the key to access the table.

This is without the SDK.

Data can be added to an existing report very easily. However, you will
be limited to the data from the existing tables in the definition.
The addition of other tables to the definition will require the
purchase of the SDK module; well, at least getting data from the
tables. You can add them to the report definition but the data will
be blank when it hits Crystal.

This can be done completely transparent to the
user if everything is setup correctly.

of the HUGE selling points for our upgrading from 6.1. I have been
told many times by Epicor that ODBC is virtually dead with regard to
Crystal as far as adding fields. It is all done via XML. Granted it
might also involve a seperate export but over the past 7 years I can't
