2 Issues

1. Ensure all icons and paths are exactly right... usually opening up slow
is a sign of network timeout.

2. You might delete all files in Vantage and Windows Temp directories.
Sometimes Progress gets weird with residue around.

Windows XP workstation. SP1 Vantage opens very, very slow. Not
sure why. Rebuilt the workstation again from scratch. Vantage
opening again very, very slow. I also noticed that Outlook doesn't
close down but rather seems to hang there with Mapi32 and Outlook
services both hanging there. Any ideas?
Hello Bruce
It is a 3com Nic. Cabling is Cat 5e. 10/100 3Com switches. We are
connected to our own mail server. I don't know how to disable instant
messaging.

Vantage:
What kind of NIC do you have in this PC?
What is the cabling & switches like in your building?
Bad card/cabling or old 10BT switch in the building?
In my building, I can really tell the difference when opening Vantage on
10BT vs. 100BT switches.

Outlook:
Did you happen to uninstall messenger?
Outlook has an option for enabling instant messaging & will take a long
time to open if this is checked and messenger has been removed.
I can't remember if this effected shutdown though.

Are you connected to your own mail server (Exchange?) or are you
connecting to an ISP's mail server? On clients that connect to an ISP, I
see them hang on shutdown sometimes. I haven't been able to figure out
why though.

I doubt that messenger is the problem, but I always disable it anyway.
In Outlook go to "Tools", "Options", "Other" tab
At the bottom of the panel see a checkbox for "Enable Instant Messaging
in MS Outlook"?

Do you have a spare NIC that you could try?

Do 3Com your switches have their own IP addresses?
I use HP & I can type the switch IP address in my browser and see switch
events and statistics.
Good for basic troubleshooting.
