4.0 to 5.1

Lydia,
A hint on getting conversion times to be consistent... Reboot the server if possible between each conversion. I've had conversion times vary considerable because of allocated memory being tied up. Rebooting seemed to allow all memory to be focused on the conversion.

Hi all:

Just wanted to throw my info into the mix - just finished my test upgrade
from 4.0 to 5.1 (doing the real deal next week). I have a 510 mgb database,
did the test conversion on a WinNT4 patch 6a-plain vanilla, 450 processor,
256mg RAM, just did it as I could, but kept track of conversion times. My
schema changes took about 2 hours 45 minutes both from 4 to 5 and also from
5 to 5.1. Then my database conversions took about 2.5 hours from 4 to 5,
but 5 to 5.1 was under half an hour. Hope the real one goes as well.

Didn't have any major problems and tech support helped with all of the ID
ten T errors (read ID10T - that would be me). My biggest problem was that I
had never used the progress explorer tool, so I messed up my database
connection - part of the learning curve.

Thanks to all of you for posting your info as you went along, so I avoided
some problems.

Lydia
