5.0 - odbc?

Thanks again. I did receive this document from tech support and implemented
these changes a couple days ago. Vantage performance has been fine, but the
ODBC is very slow. It's not any slower than it was on 4.0, but I was hoping
for improvement.

Thanks,

Sarah

Do you mean the user ID? Sysprogress should be the user ID and password
should be clear. I set up the client (with the user id) and the ODBC
settings in Progress Explorer following the instructions and installing all
patches. Whenever an ODBC link is used, ODBC will call the connect window
and clicking OK should be enough.

Did you assign a password to user id sysprogress?

With the new ODBC, is there a ways to shut-off the password so that users
running reports don't have to type it in each time they run access a
database or reports?

I had to assign a userId AND a password of "sysprogress'. When I tried
leaving the password blank, it would not connect. As soon as I set the
password to 'sysprogress', it connects fine. I want to be able to not get
the log-on screen at all.

Toy sent me a document on this from epicor. I am trying it out, but so far
it is not working. In fact, following the direction on that document, now
on the log-on screen that comes up, the user has to enter BOTH the userID
and Password instead of just the password. I'm not done working on it yet,
though.

Thanks,

Sarah

Sorry to hear that. Is your ODBC connection working on 95, 98, and NT? Mine
does work only in WIN2000. Epicor's answer is to update all my computers to
2000.....

I would love it if you didn't need a password, but all that I've read says it's required - and is built into the SQL-92 drivers. If anyone can get it working otherwise, PLEASE let me know. It seems to me that Jay Erickson's instructions of imbedding the password in the ODBC configuration file was meant to work with programs like Access and Excel, but not with Crystal.

This was one of the documents I used to connect to ODBC. Since then, I have
applied all fixes (.r's) and follow all instructions. I am still having the
problem that if a table has more than 7000 or 8000 records, I get an ODBC
failed error message and corrupt the table.

How to connect an ODBC Client to eManufacturing database

Go to your ODBC Datasource Admininstrator in the Control Panel.

If you don't see the driver
MERANT 3.60 32-Bit Progress SQL92 v9.1A
Under User DSN, You will need to add it by choosing the Add button and
finding the above mentioned driver and then choose finish.

The next screen will be the configuration screen

Enter the Data Source Name -- Progress 9.1A ODBC
Enter the Description -- eManufacturing by Epicor
Enter the Host Name -- (Name of your Server)
Enter the port Number associated with the Database -- (Located in your
services file)
Enter the Database Name -- vantage
Enter User ID - sysprogress
No password is needed

Try clicking on the test connect button and then OK
You should get a message saying Connection established.

I AM USING WIN2000 AND ACCESS 2002. THE LINKS WORK FINE UNTIL THE RECORDS
APPROACH 7000 TO 8000 RECORDS. I WOULD LIKE TO RE-START AND DO ONLY THE
LENGTH OF INDEX DESCRIPTION FIX. I WAS ABLE TO READ TABLES WITH MORE RECORDS
AND DID NOT HAVE TO ENTER PASSWORDS WHEN LINKING TABLES. I AM ALSO WAITING
FOR 5.1. WE ARE PREPARING TO JUMP FROM 4.0 TO 5.1. I HEARD 9.1C DRIVERS ARE
MORE STABLE...

I would love it if you didn't need a password, but all that I've read says
it's required - and is built into the SQL-92 drivers. If anyone can get
it
working otherwise, PLEASE let me know. It seems to me that Jay
Erickson's
instructions of imbedding the password in the ODBC configuration file was
meant to work with programs like Access and Excel, but not with Crystal.

Do you mean the user ID? Sysprogress should be the user ID and password
should be clear. I set up the client (with the user id) and the ODBC
settings in Progress Explorer following the instructions and installing
all
patches. Whenever an ODBC link is used, ODBC will call the connect
window
and clicking OK should be enough.

Did you assign a password to user id sysprogress?

With the new ODBC, is there a ways to shut-off the password so that
users
running reports don't have to type it in each time they run access a
database or reports?

Do you think it is a memory issue? I've know Excel to blow up when there is too much info coming in. I really don't have any other clues. Do you have access to the Merant ODBC driver? I'd be curious whether that works better.

It may be best to uninstall crystal entirely before putting another version
on your PC. I installed 8.0 over 7.0, and ended up having to reformat
before it worked entirely.

Do you mean the user ID? Sysprogress should be the user ID and
password
should be clear. I set up the client (with the user id) and the ODBC
settings in Progress Explorer following the instructions and
installing
all
patches. Whenever an ODBC link is used, ODBC will call the connect
window
and clicking OK should be enough.

Did you assign a password to user id sysprogress?

Go to your ODBC Datasource Admininstrator in the Control Panel.

If you don't see the driver

finding the above mentioned driver and then choose finish.

The next screen will be the configuration screen

Enter the Data Source Name -- Progress 9.1A ODBC
Enter the Description -- eManufacturing by Epicor
Enter the Host Name -- (Name of your Server)
Enter the port Number associated with the Database -- (Located in your
