ODBC and 5.2

Troy,

The strange thing is that it always worked with previous releases of
Progress and now running with Progress 9.1D01 it doesn't.

We are on Vantage 5.2 with Progress 9.1D01 and still using the Merant 3.6
drivers and starting the ODBC oibrkr32 broker with the procontrol on our
W2K
server.
The problem I encounter is when logging off from the server the
oibrkr32.exe
crashes generating a Dr Watson log. The result is that reports based on
odbc
will not work.

The work around I found is to use the "Remote Desktop Connection" to login
at the server, start oibrkr32.exe with procontrol and disconnect again.
In this situation the broker continues running.

But on our NT server I haven't found any work around....

I haven't tried it yet, Ted. I may actually start trying to use the SQL92
drivers in Vantage 5.2 (if/when we move there). We currently still are
using
the old Merant 3.5 drivers with Vantage 5.1. Works great for us. Now
that
the Error 599 is supposedly fixed in 5.2, I may give it a try in the test
database. I'd love to hear anyone's experience on this before I try,
though.

Is anyone using modified Vantage Crystal reports that use ODBC
connections
with version 5.2? I've read an issue on the Crystal Decisions web site.
It
has do with the SQL92 connections (sysprogress) not disconnecting
properly
after running these reports from within Vantage.

Just curious,

Ted,

What I found in 5.1 is that the connection is maintained as soon as you have
the application running. If you close Crystal, it should terminate the
connection.

I called Vantage on a similar problem with SQL92 and 5.1. I was
seeing a large number of resources left open for ODBC connections.
After running a ODBC reports the ODBC broker would not release
memory. Almost as if the connection was still open. I never got an
answer for that.

Troy,

I have been using the Merant 3.6 SQL92 drivers in Vantage 5.2. And it works
great for us. The Error 599 is fixed in all the 5.2 reports I have tried in
my test database. Your post from 9/30 also seems to "automatically" login
for the report.

CY Crystal Reports SCR 4498 5.20.210
To successfully print a customized Crystal report that contains a sub report
and uses an ODBC connection, the following parameters need to be defined in
the vtg file for Vantage:
VantageODBCServer=xxxxxxx (name of odbc server or connection)
VantageODBCDbse=xxxxxxx(database name)
VantageODBCUser=xxxxxxx(database logon userid)
VantageODBCpasswd=xxxxxxxxx(database logon password)

HOWEVER, I don't know about the disconnect issue spoke of early.
