5.2 and Win 98

I would love to hear if anyone has a work around to this problem. I have
already started upgrading PC's from Win98 to Win 2K or XP. This certainly
has made things work, but had I known beforehand I wouldn't have made the
leap and forced ourselves into increasing Bill Gates Share Values. I still
have another 20 plus workstations, but the squeaky wheel has been getting
the grease around here, and I am running out of grease ($$)

A short while back I had problems with a few Win 98 (on 5.20.313) PCs.
Strange things like lock ups and crumbling fonts (all text on screen broke
into fuzzy bits). Ended up being video card drivers. My theory is that
Progress 9.1D overlays some Windows .DLL or .OCX files that the older video
card drivers could not handle. Downloading latest driver (even if a couple
years old) stopped the problems. Or if really old you might need to pop in
a cheap replacement video card with recent driver. Also, memory has been an
issue for anyone using more than Data Collection. I've upped just about
everyone to 256MB. Memory is relatively cheap and will be needed eventually
for Win2K anyway.

Hi again everyone!

I upgraded us to 5.2.313 last weekend. I have been having some issues with 2
Win 98SE computers. I have updated them to IE 6.0 SP1, ran unregocx.bat, ran
instocx.ex, and excluded the vntgwk52 folder from our antivirus software.
These computers are still locking up.

Tech support mentioned that I should upgrade the computers to W2K.
Unfortunately, we don't have the $$$'s right now for me to do that. Does
anyone have any other workarounds for the 5.2 and Win 98 problems?

Thanks!

~Wendy
