And Lean or Cellular Manufacturing

> Take a look at this link of a document from Epicor -- it explains how

A perfect, shining example of how much Epicor doesn't understand what
lean manufacturing is. The first page provides a great summary of a few
core lean principles: customer-defined value, one-piece flow, pull, and
continuous improvement. But then it launches into the virtues of MRP,
transactions and forecasting.

So instead of pull, level-load, and takt-time, Vantages schedules your
machines. Instead of reducing non-value-added operations, Vantage has
your operators transacting WIP. Instead of two-bin non-electronic
kanbans, Vantage gives you kanbans based on ... drum-roll please ...
material forecasting.

Hi all,

I previously asked about Lean Manufacturing and Vantage, and didn't
really hear anything that satisfied those in my company that were asking
the questions. I have now been asked to pose the following inquiry to
the group:

We are interested in communicating with any Vantage users that have
implemented cellular manufacturing ("Lean Manufacturing") into part or
all of their shop operation. We have not been able to receive any
information from Epicor, so would like to check with any users that have
done this.

Please feel free to contact me either on or off list.

Thank you,

I've set up shops in the past with Cellular Manufacturing in Vantage.
Feel free to contact me off list.

One caveat...this was for Vantage 6.1 or below. I haven't looked in
detail into how changes in the Shop Floor layout in Vantage 8 might
impact how this was done on earlier versions (I suspect it will).

Marilyn

We're on Vantage 6.1, and are four years into our lean implementation.
In general, Vantage does not support most lean elements, in spite of
their "electronic kanban" system (it's apparently only a bullet point
for Marketing). We've turned off a significant portion of shop floor
functionality, but are hoping for some more flexible features in Vantage
8.1. If the features we need aren't available in 8.1, we'll probably
transition to traditional accounting / sales / purchasing / inventory
software.

I am also interested in any reports or insight into using Vantage/Corvu to
help us further our lean journey.

Take a look at this link of a document from Epicor -- it explains how
Vantage supports Lean Manufacturing:
