I don't know the specifics of how it is setup since it is highly customized
and I wasn't part of the group that set it up, but there is at least one
company who is using it for approvals, where they "stamp" the document with
an approval and it is then sent to the next person in line who "stamps" it
with their approval and then it's passed on to the next person in line. That
company is an insurance company and the approval process is for the payment
of claims.
Another company was using it for the printing of secondary documents with
their travelers.
Also, in terms of general use, it all depends on what fields you collect
with each document type, it is really a document management system, that you
can use to go "paperless" if you want to. You can tie documents together by
types, or customer numbers, and if you want to put anything not specifically
programmed into the system into it, you can manually attach field
information to a document that is printed or scanned through the tools,
thereby making the program a massive set of virtual filing cabinets that
take up a lot less physical room than the walls of file cabinets some of the
companies I have been to have.
If you go that paperless route, you better make sure your backups are kept
in very very good order, and I recommend a SAN or good sized NAS for the
storage instead of just drives in a server.

Subject: [Vantage] APM Basic Usage Questions
Hi all,
Reading through previous discussions about APM have certainly helped to
clarify its uses. However, I am still left wondering what exactly others are
using it for.
What I understand it can do...
- Auto-print things like SOA, Packing Slips, etc. from Epicor, have them
sent to the APM printer. Have documents automatically emailed based on
certain criteria. (We have this set up and working)
- Take input from scanners, APM can detect the document type and file away
appropriately.
What I am struggling with are things like:
- What can I do with these documents later? They get filed away into folders
based on the document type - can I have them saved as a .pdf in these
folders?
- Who can access these documents? If we have a Customer Service rep who
would like to go back and access a document printed and sent to Customer XYZ
on March 1... is there an easy way to search through all documents and find
the one desired?
How are other companies using APM to their advantage?
If there are any resources you have found useful in understanding the value
of APM/the best ways of implementation, please advise.
Thank you!
Alexandra Gaigelas
