Initially our engineering file folders consist of AutoCAD drawings (.dwg),
tif files which are old drawings done by hand scanned in and customer
drawings scanned in, plus Word Perfect documents or Word Documents.
AutoVue
lets you go forward thru all of them one by one viewing them, plus you can
select several at once and batch print, bump up the minimum pen thickness
before printing. I think there were some other things it did, also keep in
mind we purchased this before products like Volo View existed.

I was told by my Cimmetry Systems sales person that one third of the

number of users that had AutoVue install on their systems was the
minimum
total number of licenses you should have for AutoVue. If you have a 60

license for Vantage, you should have at least a 20 user license for
AutoVue.
If you want to stay current with AutoVue register your serial numbers
for
the software with Cimmetry Systems. Epicor is just a VAR and does not
forward this to Cimmetry that I can detect. Cimmetry will send you
patches
free for the first year and you can go get a annual support agreement
from
Cimmetry as well. If you are serious about using AutoVue, and do the
above,
I would also recommend installing it outside of the "epic" folders and
upgrade it independently of Vantage.

the software in the manner described herein and constitutes a floating
license assigned to ACTIVE USERS....

In the Definitions section it states.... An Active user is a user on

the software is in use during the Reference Period. The reference
period
is
any 24 hour period.

Epicor? IIRC, our's listed the Document Management Module, which I
thought
included AutoVue. Then there was another line item for something like
"Document Management Pro - 2 Users" Does that mean we only bought
two
AV
seats? Haven't used either yet, but it would be nice to know.

I suppose now that 5.2 is out (or coming) Epicor doesn't require a request
for 5.1 anymore. I just got the 5.1 disks. Haven't even been able to get to
5.0 yet.

Also got a seperate CD with an Autovue update. I am assuming I can use this
prior to doing the Vantage upgrades since it is seperate software? Is this
correct? I would like to try the solid model features. I already upgraded
Autovue once from the 5.0 Vantage CDs any Vantage impact.

I was researching Autovue as well as other CAD/CAM/CATIA viewers and found
out something interesting that Epicor didn't share with us.

According to Autovue and confirmed after several conversations with our
Sales Rep at Epicor, when you install Autovue you must set your network
security on the Autovue directory to block out any users who don't have
licenses.

We purchased 10 user lic for Autovue. Only 10 people can be set as having
access to the Autovue directory. Even if our other 75 users don't access
Autovue or have it installed on their PC, it is still a licensing violation.
If we purchase 5 solid model licenses then we are required to install a 2nd
Autovue directory.

Thought that I would share.

This is the feedback I got from our Rep at Epicor. This is a copy of the
e-mail he sent me.

Jeremy, I checked out OEM agreement with Autovue. It appears that if you
want to be compliant, you need to purchase an Autovue license for every
person on the network who has the ability to launch an Autovue license.

I would like to correct my previous message, I have just read my GRANT OF
LICENSE from Cimmetry Systems, INC and it states that I must purchase a
separate software license for each user who can execute or otherwise use the
Software Product. Well there goes part of my budget for this year.

any 24 hour period.

Epicor? IIRC, our's listed the Document Management Module, which I

included AutoVue. Then there was another line item for something like
"Document Management Pro - 2 Users" Does that mean we only bought two AV
seats? Haven't used either yet, but it would be nice to know.

Initially our engineering file folders consist of AutoCAD drawings (.dwg),
tif files which are old drawings done by hand scanned in and customer
drawings scanned in, plus Word Perfect documents or Word Documents. AutoVue
lets you go forward thru all of them one by one viewing them, plus you can
select several at once and batch print, bump up the minimum pen thickness
before printing. I think there were some other things it did, also keep in
mind we purchased this before products like Volo View existed.

We don't use Autoview that much and only have a 5 user license. I have a
shortcut on most desktops to the avwin.exe... something like
\\servername\av\avwin\avwin.exe this keeps you from mapping a drive.
When
five people are using it and you try and pull up something it gives a
message that all the licenses are taken up. When someone gets out it will
let you pull it up. Why would AV have this setup for a "floating license"
and then tell someone that they can only map a certain number of people to
it.

In their "Grant of License" section of the End-User license agreement it
states. "This license agreement grants to you, the licensee, a right to
use
the software in the manner described herein and constitutes a floating
license assigned to ACTIVE USERS....

In the Definitions section it states.... An Active user is a user on which
the software is in use during the Reference Period. The reference period
is
any 24 hour period.

Wayne, my understanding is that when you install this on the Network, it
will only allow up to 10 people at any one time access the application.
I
don't install autoview on the local machine, but rather create a short
cut
to a mapped drive. Is this not correct or is this considered pirating?
I
would love to know, as I am in the middle of ensuring that we are
utilizing
legal copies of all software.

Fascinating. So how does all this show up on our paperwork with
Epicor? IIRC, our's listed the Document Management Module, which I
thought
included AutoVue. Then there was another line item for something like
"Document Management Pro - 2 Users" Does that mean we only bought two
AV
seats? Haven't used either yet, but it would be nice to know.
