Hi,
I have worked at 2 different companies that have Vantage and one we
used backflush and my current one we don't. You are right to assume that it
reduces inventory at the related operation. The flexibility is that you can
choose which parts you want to backflush in part master, so you could start
out with a few and find out if it works for you or not. If you decide to
use backflush you need to make sure your BOM is good, and the quantity per
parent is correct. It also becomes important that your data collection
numbers are good. We decided to backflush at the 1st company I was with
because we were not getting the material issued to the jobs. It worked
better than our material receiving process did. The company I'm with now
tracks lot and has a strong material receiving and issuing process, so I
would not suggest it for us. Feel free to contact me if you would like to
talk about this more.
Thanks,

Subject: Backflush, good or bad?
I just became involved in a company that has installed and is using Vantage
for just under 4 years. They had their first inventory in 51 years just
after I was brought aboard. Now...they aren't using all the features of
they system when it comes to Auto-reciept to stock and backflush. We have
started using the Auto-reciept feature for about 6 months..but the backflush
feature is not being used. I want to use it..but I need to sell the idea to
the plant and I am not having alot of luck convincing the company of the
benefits of backflush.
Am I right in assuming that backflush will reduce inventory automatically,
(components, etc...) at a certain operation of our choice? How flexible is
backflush and are there any drawbacks to using it that I am not aware of?
We have not established a hard-line cycle counts yet...we are still playing
with the system...and we have not established any ABC code's yet.
We are using min/max reports for the most part to trigger replenishment
orders to manufacture but we are finding inventory to be inaccurate and we
are missing orders that we should have been making and are forced to adjust
the schedule daily in order to get them started. I know this system is
very, very powerful..and can do alot....I am hoping this group will help me
thru this. Thanks for any help u can give me.
