We started using backflush a couple of months ago & discovered some
of the differences between backflushing at the operation & at job
closing.

To backflush at the operation, the operation must be internal
(labour). If you want to backflush materials for a subcontract
operation, it can only be done by selecting backflush at job closing.
Also you must set a primary bin for backflush materials otherwise
Vantage will issue from the first bin it sees.

I believe this will be a REAL easy one for most of you to answer ... but I want to look at what happens when you use backflushed material. Where do you check the material as backflushed I don't see it .... it isn't something that we are now using and I was wondering how it would work if you just wanted to us it for nuts and bolts type inventory???
Thanks
Stephanie

The check box is on the inv/pur screen of part master - top right corner. I believe backflushing can be done a couple of different ways (someone please confirm this!). you can set the part to be backflushed when the operation is completed or at the time of job closing. When you close a job, you have the option to do the backflushing. If you do this, do not issue the part while the job is open. Backflushing will pull the part again and result in a double issue. I believe you get an error when you try to issue a backflushed part. It will let you, but you will still get the error. We have never used the other option of backflushing when the operation is complete.

Well I saw that but it isn't checkable - does it have to be done when the part number is created or is there something in the control module that controls this?

Part master, inv/pur button, check the backflush option at the top of the
screen. You need to set your routings up to use this. You have to link a
operation to issue the material. We backflush all material. Doing both
manual and automatic issues of material might present some problems. Don't
know, never tried both.

We have used this successfully for about a year.

Purchased parts must have 'non-stock' Un-checked, then the 'backflush' checked.
Materials (including assemblies) are associated with various operations
Operations must be marked for 'labor entry type'
1) Time & quantity
2) backflush

Ours are
OP Sequence 1 - Backflush
OP Sequence 2 - Backflush
OP Sequence 3 - Time & Quantity
OP Sequence 4 - Backflush
OP Sequence 5 - Backflush
OP Sequence 6 - Time & Quantity

Thus when we enter time/quantity at OP3
materials associated with OP1 & OP2 backflush

When we enter time/quantity at OP6
materials associated with OP4 & OP5 backflush

We do have an issue with the extra materials being associated with a job when there are rejected parts.
