Can you copy data from Access database and paste into Epicor like you do with Excel?

WE want to know if we can copy data from Access and paste into Epicor just like we do from Excel. Has anyone tried this and did you have any issues?

Why would you want to do this?

As long as the number of columns, the format, and the types are correct, you can paste from any thing if it’s on the clipboard correctly. We did a Paste Update from an HTML Table from our Cycle Count mobile app to the Count Tag screen.

We are using Access to help us create a dataset to add to a UD Table we created. The UD table contains data we use to determine when a part will be assigned to a specific machine.

We currently are doing this in Excel but Access will allow us more flexibility to compare rows and records before copying the data to Epicor.

Hi Jackie,

In this case, DMT may be a better option for you. You can still save your Access queries as .xls for import with DMT.

Thank you for sharing!

Very true. Only problem is we don’t allow these users access to the DMT tool. But is something for us to think about.

The underlying concern is the integrity of the data being imported in the correct format, type, etc. so our database doesn’t get destroyed.

DMT uses the same business rules (BPMs, etc.) as the UI, so you won’t get corruption where a date is a string or things like that. Now if we have business logic in the UI…all bets are off. :person_shrugging:

If/when you feel adventurous, Epicor functions can also be used to import/update records but it does take a little more work.
